Here in the USA Mother's Day falls on Sunday, May 13, 2018. I learned the tune Mo Mháthair from a transcription of a 2001 CD track by Jack and Jimmy Coen who said "learned this from John Cronin, a button accordion player from Kerry, in the 1990s when he lived near me in the Bronx."
On high whistle I play the tune all year, yet, it is even more special nearing Mother's Day. So for anyone who has a mother, had a mother, knows a mother, or is soon to be a mother this tune and song is for you. Waltz. Enjoy!

I just realised, we used to, occasionally, play 'A mother's love (is a blessing)'. You could give that a go too, for the day that's in it.

Well, that song is certainly worth learning and adding to the repertoire.I just realised, we used to, occasionally, play 'A mother's love (is a blessing)'. You could give that a go too, for the day that's in it.
I'm not much for being a singer, but, I've found that listening to songs (closely) being sung has improved my ear and rhythm on the whistle.

We played the tune for the old time waltz for the dancers. Mr Daly always, without exception, introducing it with a 'time for the old time waltz, and no shifting'.
A whole lot of those old songs are fine for that, Moonlight in Mayo, Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen, Skibereen, Lovely Old Miltown and more like that.

- Tell us something.: Whistles are fun, whistles are charming, whistles sound nice, whistles are affordable, whistles make us smile, whistles make dogs bark, and whistles upset some neighbors.
