Hey folks,

Brand new member here but been lurking for a little while. My first true whistle is on the way from Tommy Dion - a tweaked Bb Generation. I inquired about a wooden one but we agreed that might not be the best place to jump in. :D

I'm coming from a background of several other wind instruments including recorder, EWI, and for about the last year or so, a lot of Native American style flutes. Looking to expand my horizons again. Lots to absorb.

Jim

Welcome. Feel free to ask all sorts of questions as they occur to you. There are a lot of experienced players here who are more than willing to share their wisdom.

Hi and welcome!

Why a Bb? I believe all ourses (online and on CD) are played on a D whistle. Just something to consider - you might want a second whistle (which is fairly normal - I've gone from 0 to 6 in a few weeks, and it just sort of happened).

And what's EWI? I'll be interested to hear how you'll get on - I found having recorder experience certainly helped.

Why Bb? Lots of reasons. First, I'm not likely to be playing out any time soon, if ever, so won't "need" a D. I have high C and D NAFs that don't get played much and they don't have as much range as a whistle, so I wanted to start with a lower pitch. Also, I like jazz and Bb is a more natural jazz key.

What's an EWI? Electric Wind Instrument. This: http://www.akaipro.com/products/ewi-series/ewi-4000s

"Might " want a second whistle? Yeah, I've bought over a dozen NAFs in the past year, so that's "probably" a true statement.
