Do you use a thumbrest, neck strap or similar device to hold the whistle?

That is a narrow viewpoint that assumes no handicap. Certainly true for most players maybe, but just the fact that the OP mentioned that the MK was heavy speaks volumes to me as it is not.
I have nerve damage in my right hand that severely limits dexterity, particularly any downward pressure, I needed some help. What works for me is to rest the very edge of the whistle against my leg. While not perfect or even proper, it does allow me to play by increasing hole-closing pressure with the help of my arm.
