Celtic Colours is on here in Cape Breton, and it's a great lineup this year with some terrific concerts... only made it to one so far, plus a tunes session with Stan Chapman and Phil Cunningham, but they live stream one concert a night and have watched one every night so far. They leave them up for 24 hours until the next one starts.

Last night, the band Imar had the first hour. I knew a couple of the musicians from other bands (Talisk is playing here this year too, and Mec Lir have been here before). Anyway, as a band they are new to me, and i had never seen Ryan Murphy before (uillean pipes, flute, low whistle before). He can play. Irish, but went to college in London to get a diploma in Irish music performance. Didn't know that was a thing.

His low whistle is what I'm wondering about...idle question of no great importance, but maybe someone knows. It is covered with strips of tape, but underneath it looks like a red MK. When I saw the tape, I thought he was just anal about adjusting the tuning... then I thought, does an MK need that? And looking closer, the tape seems to be between the toneholes. I've never been hands on with an uillean chanter, wondering if he's trying to make the whistle feel like that? And there is tape where there are no toneholes and where his hands go nowhere near.

Here is the livestream, it will be up until around 7:00 Atlantic Canadian time tonight... you can see the whistle starting at at around 49:41. https://celtic-colours.com/livestream/

If the livestream is gone, it's also seen here: https://www.facebook.com/imarband/video ... =2&theater
