Since I'm making my own whistles these days, I've converted to BOAD - Bagpipe Obsessive Acquisition Disorder. Every now and then I have a wee breakdown over the atrocities being committed by my country and others, and the general state of the planet people my age will have to occupy for many years to come. My solution to these thus far has been to get profoundly drunk and buy a new kind of bagpipe.

I owe a Lindsay System SSP, a Hamon Sackpipa, and a Juro Dufek Flemish Pipe to this phenomenon.

No regrets.

Hi MadmanWithaWhistle

In my case it is UPOAD. Take a look at page 119 of the pictures of your pipes thread for evidence of that

My bodhran collection could also be added to the mix of obsessive acquisition. Whistles are cheap by comparison.

I bought one some years ago. Low price. It's a nice whistle and if I didn't have any other whistles I would be totally fine with just that one.

Another Generation Bb and a Recorder Workshop plastic C (a Susato clone) can be added to the list.

Bodhran collection? I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around that.

I have one, which I bought new from Bo Hinricks in 1978, and I've never felt I needed any more. He shot and skinned the goat, as I recall.

Back to whistles, the contents of my gig-roll has changed a bit, and I made a quick video so people can hear how they all sound.

From smallest to biggest:

1) Feadog MK1 head on Generation Eb body
2) Feadog MK1 D (c1980)
3) Walton C head on self-made C# body
4) Generation C (c1980)
5) Generation Bb head on self-made B natural body
6) self-modified Generation Bb head on Generation Bb body
7) Jerry Freeman modified Generation Bb head on self-made A body
8 ) Burke G
9) Burke F
10) Burke Low Eb (I demonstrate the thumb-hole)
11) Goldie Low D
12) Goldie Low C
13) Alba Bass A

The Bb and A are the two best players, though all are good players or they wouldn't be in the roll!

My list of whistles was constantly growing monthly(ish), but now I seem to have all that I want, certainly more than I need. :D

(Last acquisition was my MK Kelpie low F, a really nice sounding & playing whistle.)

Hi pancelticpiper

I am a magpie for instruments, and a bodhran player, so my collection grows, currently 10, (as does my whistle and pipes collections grow). The whistle purchases were to create a session pack for the new bodhran I acquired (Renegade Rhythms 16"). The drum bag acts as a whistle case :D. I like to have D, C, Bb and A whistles available with whichever drum I decide to use.
