Hi Bob

Uilleann wise, the half set in B is by David Anderson - based on the NPU Coyne measurements. There is a Pakistani practice set I bought on spec (it was less than £20) to get a spare bag - the bag and bellows work fine so I am happy. A 3D printed chanter by Phil Westwell., you can barely see it under the Pakistani bag.

The aluminium smallpipes are by the Northern Ireland pipemaker, Billy Roleston.

Tell us something.: I have recently retired and have always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument. I'm leaning to play the whistle and now the flute.

It is a D/C set by the Canadian whistle maker David O'Brien - got the set from a fellow chiffer in Ireland. I had bought whistles direct from O'Brien before (Low D and wooden high Ds in maple) and liked them. I didn't think I was taking much of a risk with the set and (I wasn't) - the whistle plays nicely when set up as D, but I have a preference for when it is in C mode.

David

They look quite nice. I'll do some research on his whistles.

Thanks for the info!

Two Mullan high D whistles dropped through the letterbox. Chromed brass ones to go with the plain brass one. I think these were the last of their old models, they are now making Sindt style whistles.

Mullan Sindt style brass Bb added to the collection - from what I can see it is likely one of the Chinese copies mentioned in the other thread, with their logo etched on the head and their branded pouch.

It looks and feels robust enough (not as robust as their Generation headed ones, you could use them as clubs), and is a relatively easy player.

More confessions

Kerry Buskers in C and D - the D takes the most effort to play of any whistle I have ever tried :o
Mullan D - this looks different from all their other models, they all look like they come out of the same factory as the Wild and Lir etc whistles. The D looks like it uses the same body as their old D with a Sindt like head on it. Very sweet tone and easy to play.
S.Z.B.E. low D
De Quelery low C# - this arrived with a broken head, which I will need to fix somehow.

My red MK sold to a friend.

Ha! Not annoyed at all.

I do have a bodhran, a high-tech one for its time (around 1980) by Bo Hinricks.

He skinned the goat. It's very nice.

That's quite a haul, Davy! I've gathered up whistles in lots of keys, what with having played with singers for so many years, but not a lot of whistles. From memory I've got:
Ab Goldie.
A Goldie, tweaked Freeman, Mack Hoover
Bb aluminium Burke, 1990s Generation redtop.
B aluminium Burke.
C composite Burke, McManus, tweaked Freeman, ancient Generation redtop, pre-1960s Clarke that belonged to my Granda.
C# brass Burke
D Deerness (for recording), McManus (for sessions), brass Burke (for gigging), Oak tweaked by Mack Hoover
Eb Killarney, old Generation redtop
E Dixon

Low D MK Pro
Low Eb Susato
Low F Susato
Low F# Goldie
Low G Goldie (an early one)

The only thing I'd like that I don't yet have is a Low E. Then I'd be pretty well set up :)

This should really get me a good slagging.
73 whistles (counting any set with one head as one whistle). Whistles not shown - Shaw G,Bb. Anonymous A. Dixon TB012D, Alba Q1, Susato D - these 3 couldn't find where I put them. O'Brien low D buried in a pipe case.

Total 81 whistles.

New ones bought recently - Killarney D and C, Lir D, Wild Eb and iVolga non tunable D.

You know, if you weren't warned when you joined that you risked ending up in charge of the National Tin Whistle Museum, you could probably sue.

eBay being my downfall again
Chieftain busker in A.
Wild in D.
I got them at a good price :D
To my surprise the busker A proved to be a lovely whistle to play, nice tone and not taking a lot of effort.
The Wild I got just to complete my set of Sind style clones. It looks lovely but IMO it is the worst sounding of the 4 - the Lir D being the best.

Susato A and old style Mullan D given to my great nephew in law, the busker and wild replaced them.
