Review: Galeon Whistle

Post by squirrel »

Galeon whistles are made in China by Andy Xu (he is a C&F member under the name andy_skiff).
I ordered a whistle direcly from him about a month ago and when I got it, just a couple of days ago, I was very impressed by the quality of this instrument.

The craftsmanship of the whistle is first rate. The head is delrin, the body is wood (lepacho) and the rings are brass. As you can see from the photos there is great attention to details.

The tone is pure and sweet. There is a beautiful resonance on the sound that I’ve never found in other whistles and this give a nice character to its voice. The volume is medium/loud with a very expressive and robust first octave, the second octave is very sweet with no piercing sounds at all.
Very balanced between the octaves and very responsive. Tuning is spot on.

The whistle comes with an hard plastic case with an humidifier inside. Also is included an elegant pouch that accomodate the whistle head and body separated, then a rod and a cloth to clean the instrument.

I owned many high end whistles and I can assure that the Galeon has the same quality of the most renowned instruments.

Sounds excellent! Both the playing and the whistle itself...that's the most important. In addition, it also looks great!
