What did I do wrong [ABC Notation]

Post by de Salier »

Hi,

I found a version for the Kesh Jig that I like in ABCNotation
I've added it to the tune collection that I already have to get the sheetmusic.

But somehow it does not work. It does convert to sheet music, but all software refuses to play the sample midi file.

Can someone see what is wrong with the code?
I've been staring at it and can not see it.

What software? It plays here. I seem to recall some software gets confused without beginning repeat signs. Add those and see what happens. L: 1/8 is a standard default and so I don't think that is the issue.

Tell us something.: I am playing whistles since 3 years ago but still at a beginner level. I especially like the tone produced by whistles of key of Bb.

My player, ABCexplorer_1_6_1, has played your code without any trouble.

Although exported midi file was played without any problem, there were several lines of warning messages during conversion.

Then, I have put “|:” at the beginning of the first and the third lines of your code and no warning produced this time.

Hi,

Changed it based on the suggestions.
See below

It still refuses to play, using tunebook SD on the iPhone and EasyABC on thr Macbook. Both refuse to play this one

Plays fine for me in Easy ABC on Windows PC.

But why, it leaves me wondering, would you want it to? Image

Why I want it?
Good question, I do learn by ear, and use this as a reference only.
But what I like about the ability to play this code is the slow down function.

But the main reason is that I don't want to be beaten by a bit of computer coding and software

Tell us something.: I've been a whistle player for over 40 years now, which is a sobering thought. I got started on a battered old Generation D and, well, just never stopped really!

Current gigs are The Powderkegs border morris, the concert band Trebuchet with our music theatre show The Mill Ballads www.themillballads.com, and Welsh dance band Caffl.

Me too.

Things I think I might try in a similar situation:
  • Check you're running the latest version of the software
    Cut the chords out
Cut the O: and C: headers out
    Change the K:Gmaj to K:G
    Cut the ~ out
And if all that fails, give up :)

The chords turned out to be the problem somehow.

Thanks all for the suggestions

Both this and your original play on Tunebook on my iPad and iPhone. I'm sure up to date versions of EasyABC will also play it. If removing the chords worked for you it is probably because the software wants a space between the closing quote mark and the next thing. It should not demand that, but might have at some point. I'd suggest an update of your software to avoid future problems.
