FT wooden keyed whistle in C/ csakan/ flageolet for repair

Post by dunnp »

Unique wooden flageolet / csakan with a bellnote of C with six Keys.
Seems to be a:440. I've never seen one that wasn't a D.
Fipple blade is chipped/ damaged. Grenadilla/ nickel keys all working but with old original pads.
I have just blu taced in a piece of plastic on the underside of the blade so I could get a quick sound sample.
Really the trader would need to do this and add a mixture of wood dust and epoxy or ca glue and epoxy and voice the whistle. Alternatively I think a recorder repairer could easily tackle this.

Anyway fixing this is not a priority at the moment too many other repair projects.
It could be done easily.
Interested in a good B whistle
Or B tipple flute or any bamboo flute
Or anything really ?

If there is no interest in a trade I will go ahead with the repairs and sell it on.

Boy, I'd be tempted except Granadilla is one of the CITES banned woods in the Dalbergia genus, and this could be confiscated when shipped to the US.
You say the bell note is C-- that's with all keys closed? With that bottom key open, does the instrument play a D scale?
Not sure what I'd trade though. What price would you ask if not traded?
Got wood?

Hi Paul,
It is unusual in that it is a C whistle. I certainly expected a D as most of these are.
It is certainly pre CITES I wouldn't expect customs hassle. It does appear to be grenadilla and I would guess it dates to the 1920s or a bit later as a guess? I think it was made by the Adler company.

I still have this instrument if anyone is interested.
It’s a rare enough wee thing.

Would sell it for 100 pounds.
Or possible for a Tipple B flute or other B instrument.
May go on eBay if I decide to do a clear out.
