There was supposed to be a sessiun yesterday but no one showed up so I'm announcing today's session here, hoping that at least one C&F member will be there. Today the sessiun is between 4:45 PM – 6:15 PM at the Royal Tara Pavilion Stage at the Big Irish Fair, El Dorado Park, Long Beach California.

I am by no means involved in the fair but thought it was pretty sad that no one showed up for the sessiun yesterday.

Too bad I didn't know about that Irish Fair.

I had a gig in Long Beach on Saturday which was done before noon, I could have got over there.

I had to work Sunday.

How many years has an Irish Fair in El Dorado Park been going on? This was the first I've heard of it.

I've been going to the Irish Fair since the late 1970s. The venue has changed many times over the years. Our band used to play at it every year, back in the 1980s.

OK I just Googled and found this

http://www.irishfair.org/#!about/c188u

I well remember the Devonshire Downs, Rose Bowl, Equestrian Centre, Santa Anita Racetrack, and Irvine locations. It was while the event was at the racetrack that our band decided to stop playing there, due to Terry Anderson personally taking over the booking of the bands, and requiring us to play 45 minute sets, with only 15 minutes in between sets, each set being on a different stage, twice as much playing as previously, but the money remaining the same. Thanks but no thanks.

So when did the name change from The Grand National Irish Faire to The BIG Irish Fair? (BIG is always in all caps for some reason.)

I believe this is the second or possibly third year at the new venue in Long Beach. We have been going every year for some five years now, starting when it was at Irvine Lake and now when it has been moved to El Dorado Park in Long beach.

Michael Kelly who usually plays the fiddle in the band Sligo Rags was there on Saturday but told me in an email that he would be unable to attend the Sunday sessiun. -Too bad, because he is an excellent fiddler and it would have been a great treat to have the opportunity to play with him. Oh, well. Perhaps next year...
