But the ultimate would be Lonesome Boatman played on a recorder!
(Will that push some buttons?)
It probably deserves that treatment
Nice one Donna! Actually, I'd vote for LB played on melodica.
Recorder is great - for Van Eyck or Vivaldi or Telemann..... LB is good for
(apart from making Finbar a packet......)
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

A lovely air. Do you have music for it? I cant find any in my normal search places.
I think this is an excellent thread - airs are my main interest.
Thanks
I'm a fan of airs, too. It can be found in the Mel Bay book 110 Ireland's Best Slow Airs.
Yep, that's where I found it, too.
Thanks rhulsey and blackhawk. I bought the OCanainn book, and guess what - its in there. Doh! I am so used to searching the web I didn't look. Idiot of the week award please, especially considering my signature line.

One does not equal two. Not even for very large values of one.
Don't feel bad, Dr Phil...we've all been there enough times so that we could have T shirts made saying "We don't have a village idiot. We all take turns."

Ooo good one, I'm rather fond of Cara Dillon's version.
One song/tune that gives me goosebumps...Niel Gow's Lament for the Death of His Second Wife. I've not heard it played on whistle, though...may have to fix that one of these days. I love Alasdair Fraser's version, as well as a song Natalie MacMaster and Alison Krauss recorded called "Get Me Through December" which is set to the melody of this tune.
Well I'll vote for a tune (or two)- "When Summer Ends"- nice version on Silly Wizard's "A Glint of Silver" recording-
also- yes- cheating I know with two- but "Slockit Light" is a favorite of mine too- especially awesome on the harp btw..... but on really anything- well not banjo perhaps....
I always enjoyed playing The Dark Island on the pipes, but am not yet up to it on the whistle as a newbie.
My nomination is Going Home - another tune I have always enjoyed playing on the pipes and one we golfers will always remember having been played at the first tee of the first tournament following the death of golfing great Payne Stewart.

Natalie does a lovely job with Neil Gow's....that's a favorite of mine too. Another spooky one for me is 'Flora MacDonald', from that same CD.... nice for whistle or low whistle.
