Re: Re.corder as a stepping stone to whistle for a learner?

There are several quiet whistles, & you can reduce the sound by inserting a piece of card into the mouthpiece too, or cover half of the aperture, both work quite well; & a lot cheaper.

Re: Best flute for small hands?

An 'F' flute, Damian Thompson, a high 'D' piccolo, just like a high 'D' whistle but transverse, great fun, or a Tony Dixon whistle/flute Duo, (high 'D', 'A', or, I think, low 'G'). Of low 'D' flutes, you could try her with a Tony Dixon ABS, not very expensive, & much lighter than others, with go...

Re: Questions about Thompson student flûte

Agree, certainly not fragile, & is a great flute, very suited to a beginner.

Another that I am more than happy with is the Tony Dixon 3 piece, (another delrin type).

Re: Realizations?

I realized this fact a while ago, I had a Boehm flute, but also a keyless, & I was always playing the keyless. :D

I also have 'piccolo' & an 'A' in keyless, great fun.

Re: Happy with David Angus flutes

I have one of his aluminium low D flutes that I bought pre used, it too is a nice instrument - (I've been tempted to get a low F or low G, trouble is, I don't really play that much, these days).

Use the image tag, the one that looks like a mountain, & put the URL to the image between the tags. :)

Re: A quiet practice whistle

For a high D, the Tony Dixon ABS, otherwise, as already suggested, you can quieten a whistle by reducing the airway, I prefer a thin strip of cardboard, about a third the width, pushed into the airway, (easily removed & no damage to mouthpiece).

Re: Generation Bb whistles

The photo is showing her playing a Bb, I think she used an Eb more regularly though, (just what I'm remembering reading here).

Kieren Collins video is showing a Bb being played.

One stockist, unfortunately all out of stock presently - https://bigwhistle.co.uk/freeman-tweaked-whistles/

(Personally, at those prices, I'd be looking at Dixon or Shearwater.)

Re: Generation Bb whistles

When I first started out with whistles, I bought 2 complete sets of Generation whistles, brass & nickel, they all sound good & play easily. I'm guessing that I bought mine when they were at their best. :D The Bb & A whistles are favoured because of their tone & easy playability for m...

Shearwater & Tony Dixon, good quality, not too loud, nice tone, (aluminium whistles).
