Re: Northeast Tionól, October 21-24, 2011: registration now open

There's a page here http://www.irishvillageusa.com/local-accommodations which covers a fair amount of the inns in the area. Gavin's is on rt 145, so the closest would be there. You would need to check which places would be open since it's the end of the season for some. The newly rebuilt Blackthorn ...

Re: Whatever happened to Woodenflute-L?

Woodie-L, that spamming thing a few years back - the archives were taken down as a result. I believe some of the subscribers saved old messages so if you were looking for something, try to sign up at woodenflute.com and ask.. there are also great archives about the flute at Irtrad-L.

Re: Please give me some feedback

I suspected the tuning was off, I have a very poor ear for this kind of thing. Your ear is fine, you'd not be playing as well as you are otherwise. Its easy to get used to the sound of a flat this or that when you're paying attention to other things. But just focussing is usually enough to get the ...

Re: abc notation and "dots"

Thing is, when you first come to the music its like Christmas in July when you realize how much of it is on the web in abc and its all free. I printed tons of those midis! But - after that first summer, when I put on my one Bothy Band cd, the tunes sounded completely different, even the same tunes a...

Re: Please give me some feedback

Not bad at all - keep doing what you're doing! Your flute could be more in tune with itself. Check the cork position first (I'm sure there's a thread on that). Then, I'd take the same tune and compare say 2-3 notes at a time, very slowly, just listening for pitch. Likely you'll then automatically co...

Re: abc notation and "dots"

I learned abc because the abc player could do slowdown easily. I'd had difficulty with my study tapes of tunes being too fast for me- this was before slow-down software became common. I learned abc using an index card in front of me. I think it took about a month to not need the card. Abc playback d...

Re: lip recovery tips?

After you've done all that, just play some long tones quietly in the bottom octave. Focus on tone and then increase your volume. Take breaks. Take lots of breaks!

Re: Tunes & Tales of Old East Galway

Many thanks to all who supported the East Galway Tunes and Tales presentation. It was a standing-room-only crowd even with extra chairs brought in and spilling into the library lobby. Special thanks to Noirin, Eileen, Ronnie, Bill, Mel, Dave, Mike Hogan. Edit! More special thanks to CAT and her C fl...
