Re: best cheap whistles to buy for a new club

I don't recommend Clark wooden fipple whistles for beginners. I find the air management issues to be an extra thing to have to deal with while also learning fingering and tunes and tongueing etc. I've never got the air complaint. A clarke tin whistle uses less air than practically any other musical...

Re: best cheap whistles to buy for a new club

But unless they've changed their manufacturing, Oak tubes have a slight flair on the fipple end that makes it really hard to pull off. Once the head is off you can reduce that flair and make it easier to adjust the head for tuning.

The Snowy Path

The session http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/104 lists this as being in Dmaj but it doesn't quite sound like Dmaj to me. Anyone know if it's a modal variant?

Re: Gallagher's Frolics

I'm one of only two people at my session who knows Gallagher's Frolics and sometimes she and I play it together later in the evening.

We play Drowsy Maggie after Cooley's and then into Swinging on a Gate. It's a nice little set.

Re: How to hold a whistle when playing C#

I've recently hired a curvy blonde to hold it for me when I play c#. She has had to learn all the tunes to know exactly when to grab it. She is also required to feed me grapes between tunes.

iPod help needed

My iPod was loaded from my now defunct laptop and has the only copy of many many downloaded songs. The iTunes on my new computer has a completely different set of songs on it. I want to take the songs off the iPod and put them onto the computer (from which I will make new playlists and put everythin...

Re: Need a Gen Bb mouthpiece ... please

Mack Hoover can make you a white cap mouthpiece for your Bb. Not the same sound as the original but nice nonetheless.

Progress

I have been struggling for years to improve my A and B rolls, and during the last few months I resigned myself to the probability that I was just not built for smooth A/B rolls at speed. In fact I've been retooling my tune list to figure out how to eliminate those rolls and what would I play instead...

Re: The C Natural Thing

I'm sorry to bring this thread up again, but as a newbie the Cnat thing is kind of a hassle to me. I have three whistles and noticed that cross-fingering it generally doesn't sound as good as half-covering. My three whistles are a Clarke, a Susato and a (supposedly) Generation, all in D. Actually, ...
