Re: Online tuition

If it's really about those things, wouldn't most of the boehm folks have reasonable technique to draw from? They may not appreciate some of the preferred technique, but basic embouchure technique should be similar, I would think. Excellent point.... I had not thought of it that way. Thanks. I may e...

Re: Online tuition

Thanks for the suggestion and comments so far - it may be a promising avenue for me to pursue, though I may be an unusual case in that all(?) that I want to learn is to improve my embouchure/reliability/tone/volume. I know roughly what sort of tunes I want to play and how to get more, I do not feel ...

Online tuition

Hi all, I think it may be time to get some tuition. There seem to be no flute teachers around here that have heard of keyless flutes (both those that were recommended to me seemed to doubt my sanity for suggesting such a beast). Perhaps I should consider online tuition..... so, does it work? Has it ...

Ugh! You reminded me of this, so I felt I had to listen again. So that's got the day off to a bad start.
And the worst thing is that there are people enjoying it.......

Re: simultaneous air & reel

[Thread revival - Mod] Forgive me if I misunderstand, but I was reminded of this track. Although the reel melody ceases when the air is being played(2:33), the percussion keeps the beat going for the dancers... I originally found it looking for low whistle tracks, several years back. I remember it ...

Re: For sale: Millyard blackwood keyless flute - more realistic price

Just realised that my price is a bit too high - too close to the new-from-maker price, so I will reduce this to 300gbp. There, 25% discount for you.

Wanted - 'Grey Larsen Preferred' flute, open to trade

Preferably in D, blackwood or delrin . Preferably UK/EU.
I can pay cash, or for the right flute I could part-trade a Copeland low D whistle

Re: The perrenial question

Thanks Terry, I appreciate the reassurance that a beginner looking for another flute may not be a ridiculous idea ;-) Looking at your website the 'grey larsen preferred' does seem the best verbal match for my perceived requirements. Prices? well if that is what it costs then fine. What would concern...

Re: The perrenial question

Thanks for the replies - there are some interesting ideas in there. I looked at the Olwell and that sounds tempting - but I imagine that there is a long waiting list. It may be worth asking though. Keep on playing what I have - yes, that is my default option. I found playing the Millyard flute a lot...

The perrenial question

A couple of years ago I decide on a second attempt at flute (keyless). I proved I could get sound out of a Tony Dixon whistle with a flute head on it, but it seemed hard work. After reading here and asking around Tony Millyard sent me a flute on approval, and I found this a lot easier to play. I am ...

Re: Help choosing a new whistle

I think mine is getting out of tune I don't think whistles 'go out of tune' unless you physically alter them in some way or other, moving the head or build up of gunk can cauise some issues, to a degree. . Sure, but is the OP developing preferences, or getting more aware of previous limitations (wh...

Re: Consulting the Metallurgy Oracle

Or the red could be copper oxide. I wonder if there is any possibility that the zinc/copper combination in the pennies is forming an electrolytic cell and causing zinc salts to form instead of copper? It is ages since I was a chemist, but I vaguely remember an 'electrochemical series' of metal(loids...
