Re: Can't read it wrong

Here's another clickbait headline: "[Photos] *****'s Famous Wife That Few Know About." (name obscured because I'm a gentleman; make what you will of the full stop). Do I need to pose the obvious question, here? I've just Googled the phrase "Famous Wife That Few Know About" (with...

Re: Columbo

Apparently sarsaparilla is still manufactured in the UK. For the most popular brand, I might have to go to Tesco, though, and I won't do that on principle.

Re: SECOND TEST POST

Hi everyone! This is my second test post. I have been quietly learning your knowledge, which makes me excited. Recently I have been thinking about buying a flute. Thank you very much for your wonderful speech. You know you can post in all the usual music forums, right? Just not the Used Ins...

Re: Columbo

Edited to add: if sarsaparilla is fruity, we might have a version here called Vimto. Another huge childhood favourite. Sarsaparilla isn't really fruity. I used to love it. There used to be a sarsaparilla bar in one of the arcades in Cardiff city centre. I loved that place. Up until recently, a newe...

Re: Columbo

I'm aware that Americans use that word for what we call 'pop', but I don't really understand why, because such products usually don't actually contain any soda. Soda, in the UK, is what you guys call 'Club Soda', except that, for it to be called 'soda' at all, it should contain at least some soda, ...

Re: Columbo

Nano said ¨Now marmite, that´s vile¨. Not so! Bearing in mind the original meaning in French is a large soup-pot suitable to make slow cooked soups and stews, such as the famed french onion soup. A dear friend owns and operates a restaurant named ´Marmite´, a remarkable Bistro. It derives its name ...

Re: Columbo

Cream soda was common in the US in my Childhood, in the Philly area. It was basically vanilla soda. I never liked it. I don't see it much anymore, but it was really common fifty years ago See, we're coming up against another little Transatlantic puzzle: soda. I'm aware that Americans use that word ...

In the UK, google tells me there is a brand, Barr´s with Cream Soda on offer. Naturally, Schweppe´s as well. A US brand, Ben Shaws, is available at The British Cornershop (online).

As far as I know, it is completely unknown in the UK. I have certainly never come across it.

Columbo

I'm just watching an old Columbo episode. By the way, I think Columbo is probably the best television series ever produced, anywhere in the world.

Anyway, in this episode, Columbo asks for a "cream soda". What on Earth is that? I've never come across that in my life.

Re: test of message that gave system error

You realise that I meant that I genuinely like that particular substitution, right? Oh, totally. I'd just forgotten that it was there, and I thought an explanation to the membership wasn't the worst thing to do. :) Another cracker is "Oh, my goodness! What in the world?"

Re: test of message that gave system error

I can confirm that the word 'get' doesn't feature anywhere on the censored words list, which is, in fact, very short*.

* By the way, I particularly like ridiculous substitution for the word 'ρσяиσפядρђψ'.
