Re: C-nat jumps
This symptom suggests that you are either tuned sharp of concert pitch, are having pressure control issues, or both.

Re: Regulator key alignment?
Hans-Joerg is of course correct, but I believe the original poster meant omething else by the word "fan". He seems to have been referring to the curved path described by the ends of the regulator keys in each "rank".

Re: What is a Rowsome Style Chanter
I would agree with much of what has been said already. The variety of meanings attached to "Rowsome style chanter" is so wide as to make the phrase essentially meaningless. While it is true that there is much variation within Leo Rowsome's output, the vast majority of "Rowsome style&q...

Re: Regulator key alignment?
Besides the 'fanning' possibility - related to the fact that the player's hand is not perpendicular to the keys in all playing positions - there are other factors in play. One factor is that many modern makers place the C natural quite close to the B, i.e. further down the regulator, to reduce tunin...

Re: NEED - Penny Chanter Reed
Just a note: it's quite important that the original staple be used for penny chanters, or a similar hand-rolled staple larger than standard tube staples, for good results. Otherwise your octave tuning will be flat.

Re: Double Reed Dynamics
You say "dozens of reeds". Think hundreds. The big variables to keep in mind when learning (and keeping good notes!) are: crow pitch, stiffness, internal volume, lip aperture/elevation. These four are tightly interconnected. The big factors that should be constant: symmetry, airtightness, ...

Re: Main stock cup crack
I would venture that these cracks are quite common - I have seen many - but are often the result of excessive or unsuitable binding. If you put incompressible binding (waxed thread, plumbers' tape, etc.) inside a wooden cup and wedge it tight, or the cup shrinks due to seasonal changes, you can expe...

Re: New Joe Kennedy C Full Set
Kennedy sounds https://www.box.com/s/0rnhw0bdqtxxgzt2y9am Hello, Is this sound file on the Kennedy C set? Or a C# set? The sound is just what I want. I have a Kennedy NBD chanter and am considering getting Joe to make a 3/4 set for me in either C# or C. I'm a little concerned about the finger stret...

Re: Fingering
Low whistle isn't going to help. It presents its own unique challenges. I would concur, avoid using the fingertips in the manner of 18th and 19th century paintings. It will, at best, slow you down a lot, and at worst cause strain injury or make decent piping impossible. The angle of the chanter is a...

Re: 3 Rowsome D chanters: Koehler VS Nakatsui VS Aebi
Ask K P O'Kaine, he has experience with all three and owns a relatively recent Aebi and Nakatsui. He might have sound samples of all three... But of course it will depend hugely on the individual reeds and player, as has already been noted.

Re: Cannot access NPU videos
Log out and back in again. In the past at least, the site would log you off after a few minutes of 'inactivity’ (i.e., while you were viewing a video ;-) ) but would not update the 'logged in' button. Let us know what worked for you and I can pass the info on to NPU. They subcontract all this softwa...

Re: Question about bass drone slide sections
A curved bore is almost the same as the equivalent straight bore, but not quite. In theory a curved section acts both wider and longer than a straight section of the same diameter (according to Benade). As Geoff suggests, it should work "more or less". Note that most straight bass slides a...

Ok. For that design, yours was probably a reasonable repair method. I hate to encourage people to go pouring super glue into things. Can be very bad indeed.
