Re: Hummelchen and Bagpipe Questions

...the range, particularly the missing lower second, that makes the Hümmelchen unsuitable for Scottish music... Missing the 2nd? So a C Major scale going CEFGABC ? No, Michael means what he put more clearly before: The Hümmelchen as such is designed for Renaissance music, the range being from c' to...

Re: Hummelchen and Bagpipe Questions

Did you happen to see the video of the high F Hummelchen that I linked to in my first post? I did, yes. I’m really curious how a SSP style chanter in high F would differ from this Hummelchen in high F (besides the SSP chanter having the tone below, which I would have thought might mean that the SSP...

Re: Hummelchen and Bagpipe Questions

interpreted your first post to mean that the range of an F chanter in SSP style would have a full tone below the bottom F, which I would have guessed would be E, not E flat Eb is a tone, but E would be a semitone. Also, to anyone more knowledgeable about pipe design, what would be a potential drone...

Re: 18,200 Repetitions Per Month

Regardless, I do think it’s incumbent on the student to pay attention to the effect different style related elements have on the music, regardless of whether you’re specifically being coached on how to play more musically, or simply being told how to play a passage based on what your teacher wants....

Re: 18,200 Repetitions Per Month

how she coached students through the nuances of upper level piano performance for important recitals - dynamics, rhythmic and timing subtleties, the use of a sustain, and so forth, all meant to add up to that “something special” It can be a double-edged sword. Of course teachers need to teach/nurtu...

Re: Forum icons

Yeah, I've done that already. It's cumbersome. As a mod, I found the previous convenience of PMing directly from a post to be highly useful, because that setup automatically referenced the post in question in a quotebox. If I'm to refer to a post's contents now, I have to jump thru a few more hoops...

Re: Forum icons

Pretty much, yes. I'm perfectly willing to work with this design, and just do a bit of shuffling or installation of what's missing. Have you checked to see if anything you want to do is available as options from your admin pages? If not and it's just a bit of shuffling etc., I could probably help, ...

Re: Forum icons

I can't find how to PM someone. Is there something I've missed? The only way I see is to click on the person’s profile, and there’s a PM option in the contact area of the profile. Or Private messages > New PM. Or bookmark the link for that: http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/ucp.php?i=pm&mode=com...

Re: Forum icons

Tell us more. There are a few pet changes I'd like to make, if the Admin team agree. I've never done it for phpBB, but know how it worked for YaBB SE and SMF, to which I contributed as a team member (not a developer — I wrote documentation). The principles for phpBB look similar: https://www.phpbb....

Red Unread posts (which seems redundant, since there is also a little turned down piece of paper which also shows that there are unread posts) If you click on the red to go to the first unread post in an existing topic then scroll to the posts above it (or click on the red icon within the topic), y...

This is what I have in my post (I changed the opening tag bracket so it doesn't process): You can use the Code tags to display code without it rendering (also useful for preformatted text): https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP71vuqDzUiqhdLyykQXYUWffcbP2v5Kmz3aJrQ https://photos.g...

Re: Repeat symbol question

In some classical music, it is the custom to play the piece twice over, the second time round omitting the repeats. Maybe this is more a matter of personal preference. Where you get forms like minuet & trio in baroque and earlier classical music, current performance practice typically differs f...

Re: Tips for managing intonation using 150+ year old flute

If I were to place an order with Copley or someone like that, should I opt for similar embouchure and finger holes or should I go with the larger sized holes (pratten style?) like the plastic flute I am most used to from the plastic flute? I'd choose elliptical embouchure assuming that's what your ...

Yes, I think he means the latter. Already cleared up by private communication (hence my edit); I just left my original words up in case anyone else misunderstood like I did. It's a German expression "Das ist geschenkt" -- "It's a gift" for meaning "it's a bargain...

Re: new bux wood Rudall flute for sale from private user

I'd want 2'500 Euro (and it remains a gift!) If that's a reference to PayPal Friends and Family (?), it's against PayPal terms and doesn't provide buyer or seller protection. Edit: If, on the other hand, you simply mean you think the flute is a bargain at that price, I apologise for the misundersta...
