Re: 53 million plus views for a whistle

I've viewed this myself a few times. They put together a good show. I like the harpist. The whistler needs suspenders. Incidentally, what is that whistle he is playing?

Re: Feedback on Chinese Knockoff of John Sindt

I read a post on this forum some time ago about Mr. Sindt's reaction to the Killarney. He was very gracious and said something along the lines of, "I suppose there are only certain ways whistles can be made." Class guy I play the Killarney myself. The most recent Killarneys have the brand ...

Re: Looking for a mellow sounding tin whistle

Parks whistles have a volume control mechanism on the mouthpiece.

Re: Humphrey D+ Whistle Questions

I have a Shearwater A with a G hole below the A. It comes in very handy for certain tunes, particularly Scottish. The bell note is very strong and does not seem to be affected by the extra hole.

Re: What whistle(s) do you play regularly?

You were in a busking street fight? Do tell. This calls for a new thread, perhaps. Like many stories it's a bit less interesting than it sounds. A few friends and I used to busk after the pub we had out session in closed for the night. In Cork, as in much of Ireland, there are two scheduled closing...

Re: What whistle(s) do you play regularly?

I would definitely recommend that anyone spend the first year or so of their learning on a single whistle. Learners tend to buy a bunch of whistles in an effort to sound better or find a tone they like. The truth is that you can improve your tone a hell of a lot more just by getting better at playi...

Re: What’s Your Session Whistle of Choice?

The tunes are not strictly Irish so they're not really sessions. That would be news to people on this island playing in English/Scottish/Welsh or mixed sessions. Well, maybe I am playing in a session here, though it feels more like a jam-session in someone's porch or kitchen, which is where we tend...

Re: What’s Your Session Whistle of Choice?

I noticed that many of the whistles mentioned on this thread are tuneable. I play in small, mostly impromptu groups that include the mandolin, guitar, squeeze box, fiddle, and some vocals. The tunes are not strictly Irish so they're not really sessions. How important is it to you session players tha...

Re: Walton Mellow D

I had a Walton's Mello D several years ago and I liked it better with the putty cavity treatment. I think I gave it away at some point. This thread has reignited my disorder; I ordered a Walton's Mello D a few days ago. Thank you very much.

Charming in a way, but I don't fancy seeing spittle burbling with each note.

Re: Clark Original Whistle Models over the years

. Recently, I bought another Clarke C, the black with the gold diamond version. This one was a winner right out of the box. For one, the black paint "feels" thicker and the tin-work around the block seems to be a tighter fit. It actually takes less wind and is more focused. I wonder if Cl...

Re: Clark Original Whistle Models over the years

I've had an on again, off again relationship with Clarke Originals, which ended up being mostly off because of my heavy handed attempts at tweaking them. Recently, I bought another Clarke C, the black with the gold diamond version. This one was a winner right out of the box. For one, the black paint...

Re: reaction to aluminum mouthpiece???

The only aluminum whistle I play is the Shearwater. John Bushby of Shearwater uses delrin for the windway with the roof being aluminum so I don't salivate overmuch. When I did play a whistle with an all-aluminum windway, I tended to produce more saliva, which clogged the whistle quickly. This isn't ...
