First of all, I would check whether the bag is even tight: remove the chanter, cork it, inflate it with the bellows. The bag then has to stay as firm as a football for at least the first 20 seconds. It's hard to know what's wrong without being there. With a full bag, can you keep the chanter sounding for several seconds even without pumping the bellows at all? Is the problem that you can't replace the air fast enough even with frantic pumping? Maybe the reed is too "firm" or the lips ...

I did this a year or so ago. Ramon was pretty good with emails and keeping me updated with how everything was going. Happy with the end result too!

I know Jack personally. He's got some sound clips of some of his recent chanters up on his website. His recent chanters are sounding really nice IMO. He's probably the most genuine person I've ever met.

IMO you will *never* be completely happy with your technique. There will always be a triplet or something you would prefer to be tighter or better. You need to focus on both. Learning tunes and technique. They're both important, and both never ending!
