Re: DIY Bass G specs wanted

I was planning on going out and getting some schedule 40 1.25" pipe today, but decided to hold off 'til I had this thrashed out here. Like I said, I would rather give myself the best chance of success. Doesn't mean I will succeed, just that I will give myself a fair go to do so. I do have 1&quo...

Re: DIY Bass G specs wanted

Well it seems I might be missing some vital technical aspect. How is it that Mr Goldie can build a very playable keyless Bass G in Aluminium, but I would most likely build a barely playable one in PVC or have to include keys (Putting aside for the moment, the fact that I am a rank amateur and Colin ...

Re: DIY Bass G specs wanted

Thanks Daniel, I'm going keyless. I have 25mm OD PVC at hand (approx 21mm ID). You think that would do? Or should I get something bigger. I've made Low D's from that. I would say they aren't perfect, but for me they do the job fine. I have a proper Low D (a Goldie) for any serious playing, even thou...

Re: DIY Bass G specs wanted

Thanks for the replies, I was looking for something a little Guido-esque as I work best with a drawn plan. Having said that I like DrPhill's link. Far simpler to deal with than TWCalc. Complex mathmatical problems are not my strong point. It is precisely because I saw Hatao playing the Bass G that I...

DIY Bass G specs wanted

G'day all, I haven't posted here in a good long while, so forgive me father for I have sinned :) . Anyway I was hoping that someone here would be able to give me some specs to make my own Bass G whislte. I have plenty of PVC and Delrin to practice on, and I've already made a couple of Low D's, a Low...

Re: Low D whistle suggestions sought

I would suggest 'Syn' as a whistle to look at. Sounds like it's what you're looking for.

Re: crooked whistle shifting my breath requirements

The only thing I've noticed about my own playing while swapping between a flute and my whistles is that it's a damn sight easier to play the normal whistle rather than one of them cantankerous crooked bloody ones. However, being a bit cantankerous myself, I continue with my battle of the crooked's. ...

Re: Howard Low - Third Octave?

I'm with Jem with regards Howard Low D's. I just don't like them. I haven't tried many, but they just didn't float my boat. Everyone has different tastes and there are enough whistles varieties to hopefully find the one that does it for them.

Re: Practice Time, but which Whistle??

I switch between whistles (and flute...singular) but I lean towards the lower scale more so these days. I spend more time on my A, Low F, D and Flute (in Low D) than I do with my high whistles. Where I'm at has been a slow and steady progression with a little bit of, 'don't want to annoy the neighbo...

Re: Breath control issues

Re: the vibrato, I'm not a trad player so much as a player of what takes my fancy. I tend to use breath vibrato with a rare bit of the other. I haven't had anyone teach me, so if what I do is wrong, so be it! It suits me...So whatever suits you is fine by me too :D .

While we're on the subject I would like to say thank you for my favourite high d Black Diamond Erle. I haven't forgotten that I spoke to you last year about buying one of your Low D's. I think that is on the cards for the middle of this year, not far away at all. Would you mind PM-ing me your contac...

Re: Treatment for WhOA?

Sell absolutely everything you own...Everything! Then give all the money you made from said sale to me as a gift. Tell your boss to take the job and shove it and burn the last shreds of clothing you are wearing. That should just about cure it. You can keep the whistles you already have though. It wo...

Re: Erik the flutemaker

Also, most of his videos and sound clips have reverb on them. Most whistles can sound great with special effects. Even the outdoor playing has the sound of the batcave come cathedral reverb. Does sound great though. And some amount of his money goes to a charity if I remember correctly...Other than...
