Re: DIY Copper Pennywhistle with 3D Printed Mouthpiece

Just to add a bit of info about other whistles to this conversation, Pat O'Riordan's whistles had flat bottom/arched top windways, as did David Boisvert's Greenwood whistles. Add another; my Humphrey also has flat bottom/curved top. Don't rmember the model name. @VioPhilist.... right off the printe...

That Sarah Jeffrey video is pretty amazing; I came across it a few weeks ago. Need to spend some time with it.

Re: Playing Strathspeys

Was trying to find another clip of Calum Stewart playing Belladrum House that I really like (its got that Cape Breton drive where every beat is accentuated), but have been unable to find it. I'll look for some more examples - e.g. from Hamish Napier and Nuala Kennedy. Anyone else spring to mind? Mu...

Re: Tune favourites from the lockdown

'Ann Maguire's Silver Wedding', and some other tunes off McCusker's 'Yella Hoose' and 'Goodnight Ginger'. And 'The Auld Pipe'. I've been too busy to play until the last couple of days; teacher, flat out trying to figure out technology, and getting stuff online.

He makes an A as a standard item; I have one. Beautiful whistle. Don't know about G.

Re: Review of the Carbony Highland Whistle

That was really interesting; thanks for taking the time. I knew about that whistle, but have never seen one played; now I get it. All the pipers around here just use regular whistles as far as I know.

Re: Square alloy whistle that I made

That's awesome. I love rethinking the whole thing from a different perspective, and the result sounds pretty good. Keep going. Wouldn't apply to your design at all, but another example of rethinking things were the Macneil whistles, made by Ryan J. MacNeil of Beolach. Not made any more. I have one. ...

Re: information needed on B and Bb whistles

Good advice above. I don't think you can go wrong with a Bb; it was important to me on the way to low D, and it is a beautiful whistle on it's own. We have several Generation Bb's here in nickel and brass, and they are all nice. At one point, for me it was very challenging, and I didn't think I woul...

Re: What Keys of Whistles do you have (low and high)?

From high to low: F, G (neither ever get used), Eb (and I have an Eb that is waiting to be made into an E), D, C, Bb, A, and low D. I would like to add low Eb, E, and F, and thinking about G's.

The Cnuas CD is available to listen to free Spotify. The other one doesn't seem to be.

Re: Mary Bergin on Amazon Prime Music

Mary Bergin is just plain wonderful. This is a video of MB teaching a beginner to play whistle; I found it well worth watching. http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=108701 Here is a little snippet of her playing the tune O'Rourkes with Ross Ainslie, another excellent whistler. ht...

Re: High C whistles, what is your favourite and why??

I have Sindts in D, Bb, and A. There are SMALL differences between them, maybe, but they are all closer to each other than any of them is to any other whistle I own. That's a small sample, I'll grant you, but other than my Humphrey set I don't have multiple whistles by one maker to refer to. But bas...

Re: High C whistles, what is your favourite and why??

I'm not sure you would see THAT much difference between the D and the C of any maker.... if you like their D, you would probably like their C, no? Anyway, I have a Generation that's pretty good, but my main C is a Humphrey. I bought a D+ (seven holes), and a C tube fits that head so I got the C tube...

I have what I think is a Cooperman whistle. My first; bought at the Fortress Louisbourg gift shop in Cape Breton. I used to think it was unplayable.... just had a toot and it's actually very nice, sweet whistle. I also have a Cooperman fife my girls gave me.... just picked it up again and got no fur...

Re: Kenny's flute recordings

Thanks for the tunes, folks. I'm working my way through. It put me in mind of the Flute Geezers tunes that circulated around; I hadn't listened for a while, I put them on in the truck, and then stumbled on them online again here https://www.lafferty.ca/music/irish/flute-geezers/ , or they might be i...
