Re: Can't read it wrong
Rant: It's duct tape, not duck tape! The stuff was originally used to seal the seams in metal air conditioning ducts. Still is, actually. People got sloppy with the pronunciation then a company marketed a "duck tape" as a play on words with a cute duck for a logo. Now three-quarters of th...

Re: Making a PVC whistle
This problem is simple to solve - just buy a lathe. The other big annoyance is finding dowel that will fit with no (or minimal) sanding
You know you want to and the sooner you do it the fewer your regrets will be once you do buy one and wonder why you waited for half your life before doing it!!

Re: Tuning Slide - Teflon Tape v. Cellophane Tape
you should never need to tune your alloy whistles in which case you should probably just buy a non tunable whistle ... Not necessarily-- sometimes you might want to play with an instrument that's not quite in tune with your whistle but is impractical to retune. Piano or hammered dulcimer come to mi...

Re: Tuning Slide - Teflon Tape v. Cellophane Tape
you should never need to tune your alloy whistles in which case you should probably just buy a non tunable whistle ... it's just the player that plays out of tune well sometimes the whistle helps out a bit - still if its out of tune I guess you can blame the player whether or not the whistle is con...

It effects the pitch.
Make the hole bigger effectively shortens the tube.

Re: Asking for opinion about Alisyn Bore Oil
Adding to and commenting previous information I could be wrong, but I think Tung Oil is a generic term, and specific products can be different from each other. Also, I think it polymerizes (gets a hard coating). From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Tung oil or China wood oil is a drying oil obtaine...

Re: Has anyone made a ridiculously large bore whistle for fu
There is an an optimum value for the diameter of a length of tube that gives the maximum Q value. For those not up on there their physics the higher the Q for a resonant system the more it wants to resonate. Making a tube of a particular length too narrow or too wide will result in the tube 'not wan...

Re: Tuning of the Octaves
The WIDesigner program, https://github.com/edwardkort/WWIDesigner , does treat the octaves independently, and can handle tapered bores and bore sections. Thanks for that link - I'll have to check it out, though I do have a spreadsheet that I developed that predicts octave tuning. Now I need to go b...

Re: Tuning of the Octaves
Interestingly, according to Guido Gonzato, ". . . with cylindrical whistles the second octave is slightly flatter than the first octave." Just found that. Fairly dogmatic statement . . . but experience doesn't seem to bear that out. What experience doesn't seem to bear this out? Does the ...

Re: New headjoint for an antique flute: worth it?
Making one is quite simple, it's just a cylindrical tube with a hole after all spoken by someone who has I'm guessing never made one. For example look at http://www.mcgee-flutes.com/fluteslide.html and consider that the 'simple cylindrical tube' will need to be matched to the body so may not (proba...

Re: Whistles tend to pitch up
Mary Bergin ... has her whistles adjusted to their maximum 'sweet spot' If Generations have a 'sweet spot' that is sharp of A440, isn't that the same as saying they are designed to play sharp? ummmm... I'd say yes Rather than a 'sweet spot', I think something else is happening ... They wanted the i...

Re: E's blowing hard but E's not getting anywhere!
Yes it requires little air pressure to play a whistle. Congrats on getting some notes Some whistles use more air, but not a lot more. My advice would be to stick with what you have and learn some relaxed breath control, you should not be holding back your breath in your throat edit cross posted agai...

Re: E's blowing hard but E's not getting anywhere!
Edit - cross posting, but decided to just post any way... So how's it going? Don't have anything to add to DrPhil and MTGuru advice. I will add that some beginners do blow too soft but from you saying at this point the dog screams and runs from the room it would seem that is not the problem! It gets...
