I'm sure you are enjoying your new Bb flute. It will have all the benefits you mention:- nice lower register notes - the extra effort in fingering and blowing is very beneficial for the D flute. I use my Bb as a 'work-out' before playing any of my other flutes as it is as you say much easier to play...

I wouldn't use the technique above (photos) for recording flute. If a studio condenser mic was being used you'd blow the diaphragm out.
