Re: Key leaf spring repair

He should be happy to have you ship him just the key which he can re-spring and send back to you. Strangely but this simple idea didn't come to my mind:). Possibly because I've been hoping to send Francois the whole flute for more thorough repair - there's a crack in the head going through the embo...

Key leaf spring repair

Hi guys! A while ago I found spring of my flute's F-nat key broken. It no longer presses well to its seat and doesn't seal. The flute is a Francois Baubet 4 keyed flute in mopane. It is 10 years old and it would need a bit of a repair but now I hardly can afford sending it to Francois from where I l...

Re: FS: Chieftain Gold Tunable High D

Why delete?

I have a question. What about clogging? I'am mostly a dry blower and don't usually have this problem but a couple of times I played all brass whistles and it was awful clogging-wise despite overall awesome tone and playability. So, what's here?

Re: MK Chameleon

Hello to everyone, it's been a time since I posted here. Been lurking for a while. At a first glance this is not a new idea - there are 10-holes chromatic fipple flutes. They are quite widely present here in my part of the world (Russia & Ukraine). What I immediately thought on seeing the MK Cha...

Re: Flute question

Isn't it a common German "nach Mayer" flute? The keys look standard for this type of flutes as well as the design.

This is in fact a piece of chorus of a pop song. I don't know it's name but I hear it on radio sometimes while working. By no means it is Irish Traditional.

Re: "Ar Lorg na Laochra" - Tiarnan O Duinnchinn & Laoise Kel

I downloaded the album from Laoise & Tiarnan's site a couple of days ago and really enjoed it. But I discovered that the #5 track (Highland and reels) is missing and instead of it there is the composition Catherine Oige which is also the track#7 - so it (Catherine Oige) is doubled. This is both ...

Re: Flute Materials

About dymondwood. There were stories maybe a decade ago, that Sweetheart had abandoned the stuff cause the 'wood' sometimes broke down, chipped, whatever. About ten years ago my now former bandmate bought a flute from Sweetheart, in dymondwood. It was "resonance" model, as far as I rememb...

Re: The Great and Awesome Flute Youtube Thread

Found a few new flute vids yesterday: An early video with Mike McGoldrick, Sean Smyth and John McSherry, in fact early Lunasa without backers, mid 90s, I suppose. McGoldrick plays a Lehart flute. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRrqsQnuv6A Beginish, with Paul McGrattan on flute - never seen them on ...

Re: Playing Low Whistle Outside in Winter

I had some experience of playing my old Chieftain OS in winter. It was not very cold, as far as I remember, about 5-7C below zero. It was on Christmas and we played christmas songs all the day until night. I had no problems with my lips, the biggest problem was tuning - winter-cold aluminium whistle...

No, Seamus Begley is with Teada.

Nell Ní Chróinin is going to become the lead vocalist for Danú.

Good news indeed  It's there on the band's site.

Very interesting to hear Muireann has left the group as well; I wonder who we'll see taking the role/s of singer and flute player.
I suppose they should recruit Seamus Begley. He is also a kerryman and seems bold enough.
