Re: How do I play this?

Sounds to me like he's attacking the note and/or accentuating it by tapping the note below it. He might be doing a tiny cut before the note, or a combination of the two - a very short roll.

Re: Cuts VS. Taps and when you use them (and Double taps)

Here's a video of a tune using taps to separate notes. To me, it's obvious how the taps sound different than cuts in this example.

Re: Tune search - sorry!

You're welcome, Benhall. I like that tune a lot. I heard it played by Hammy Hamilton online somewhere, followed by a tune called Moneymusk.

Re: What's the name of this tune?

Thanks Mark. Indeed, it's the Maids of Mitchelstown, and it's the Bothy Band, not Altan.

What's the name of this tune?

Maybe a slow reel played by Altan? The A part starts out something like this: E2BA F~A3| ~A2FA BAFA|

And the B part (with a C#): GABC d2CA| Be ef g2fe|dBAF G3A| 3BCd 3Cde dBAF|

Thanks,
Michael

Re: The Great and Awesome Flute Youtube Thread

Lovely little tune on a lovely little bamboo flute. I've got to ask, Jim...what is the padding between the fingers? I assume it helps with some uncomfortableness of some sort or something? Keeps the fingers spread?

Re: Low F Whistle quest

I've got a Shaw low F, and while the sound is sweet, there are times when I have to put it down because I'm out of breath. But then there are times when playing it is easy. I think the more you play it, the easier it gets.

Re: Visiting Dublin

Well, I had a great time. I played with two guys from France in the back of O'Donoghue's. They had just flown over to Dublin that afternoon and stumbled into the pub for something to eat but were talked into playing some music by some patrons of the pub. They finally got something to eat, and that's...
