Re: A question about the sound of PA vs Button Accordion
it's comforting to know that the p/a players want to sound like us box players... unfortunately we're outnumbered and there are far more p/a players performing and recording than box players... still - at least we can take comfort in knowing that in their hearts they wish they were box players... :l...

Re: DanceMaster Accordions
I purchased my dancemaster from a guy locally up here in Minnesota - I have been very happy with my dancemaster - Michael is a genius when it comes to tuning and reeds. He is also very helpful in the research/studying phase of buying a box - he is very willing to help and provide insight. I have a f...

Re: A new instrument for Steve Shaw to take to session LOL
how does this thing work? are you blowing into it and putting air through all pipes at the same time? Is that how you get that drone sound? I hyperventilate just listening to this guy? He's circular breathing to keep the continuous tone, right? I was so inspired by this cat I learned 2 of the 3 jigs...

weltmeister 2 row id help please
Hey folks - I see this weltmeister out on the bay -- I believe it's a c#/d but am not 100% sure -- if you have a sec - take a look at this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260402833965&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 the 5th picture down shows the back of the box -- the...

Re: tilting the box away from you?
Hi Rob and Steve - yeah -- I can see what you mean -- perhaps if I would have seen this when I started playing I would have done this -- now when I try the tilt, the box feels all weeble/wobbly -- I can see what you mean about having the right hand in a more comfortable position -- as I hold the box...

tilting the box away from you?
Hi Everyone -
watching vids on youtube ect - I notice that a lot of box players tilt the box out and away at an angle from their chest instead of hugging the box tight up against you -- what's the deal with that? What are the benefits to holding the box out away from your body?
Thanks,
Ted

Re: 3 row diatonic button accordions
Thanks Brian -- so with the B/C/C# --- on the B/C rows -- it behave just like a B/C box, right? Then you add that C# row to get functionality in other keys? Could you transpose a tune you know with the B/C fingerings to the key it would be in if you played it in the same spot on the C/C# rows? How d...

Re: 3 row diatonic button accordions
Thanks StevieJ - Wow... is the accordion a great instrument or what? My goal is to be able to add chord accompaniment with the left hand -- the stradella system is the way to go -- After playing the PA a bit and starting to learn the stradella bass system, I think the basses on the diatonic B/C are ...

3 row diatonic button accordions
Hi everyone - curious what the deal is with the basses on the 3 row diatonic button accordions -- every once and a while you'll see a 3 row on ebay -- a B/C/C# with 48 bass -- how do the basses on one of these work? Are they a stradella bass similar to what is on a PA? With the basses, do you get th...

Re: the need for speed
Thanks for the tips -- practicing right now I see what you mean about pinky stabbing being a slower downer -- working on moving away from that -- where the melody permits fingers 1 - 4 (pinky) to play a phrase it doesn't slow me down but on repeated eight notes I can see how poking with the weak fin...

Re: the need for speed
Thanks for your replies -- good points -- I do slow things down and make sure my fingering is making sense and is consistent -- but yes -- I think that would probably be the root of my problem -- I wish there were someone in the Twin Cities on B/C who I could take lessons from -- any one know of a B...

Re: On the fence
Hi Ro3b --
here's an idea -- let's have a poll -- play a set of tunes on one box, then the same set of tunes on the other box -- put them on youtube -- we'll vote on which one we think you sound better on --
What do you think?
Ted
PS: is it easier to play faster on the C#/D?

the need for speed
First of all I would like to say thanks to the nice people here on this forum. There are other web forums out there where flame wars erupt constantly -- making it an uncomfortable atmosphere for new comers. I have been playing the B/C box for 2 years and am doing pretty well on it but something is h...

one interesting thing -- at times in his recordings, Tim Edey plays a D/G button box -- of course he's a musical genius too after I got started going down the B/C road I had some thoughts about perhaps going over to tina because it's smaller, more portable and not as loud as a button box. It also do...
