Re: Dry throat when playing flute.

If you're using a lot of throat articulation, it might be worth examining that a bit. I used to find that using a lot of "energetic" throat articulation caused some irritation, and is counter-productive in any case. If you're not using throat articulation, then ignore!

Re: Cork problem

Hold the stopper cork (carefully!) in the steam from the spout of a boiling kettle, rotating it slowly, for several minutes. Wipe dry, apply cork grease and refit. If it is still loose, repeat the steam treatment for longer. Since reading this thread I've been contemplating doing this on the cork t...

Re: Flat G on WD Sweet Shannon flute.

Do you turn the head joint in? If so, how much? How does it line up with the tone holes? Have you tried other flutes by other makers? If so, have you found the same issue? How have you determined that it's flat? By ear or using a tuner? If you're using a tuner, can you play a scale and tell us how m...

Re: John McKenna 2 CD: The Buck from the Mountain

There was a segment on this on the John Murray show on RTE radio on Wednesday morning. You can listen to it, or download it from here.

FS: Olwell Bamboo Flutes: D, E, F, G and A SOLD

I have decided to sell my collection of Olwell bamboo flutes. They are magnificent instruments, but I play them so seldom it seems a shame to keep them. I didn't buy any of them new, but they are all in great shape with only a few minor scuffs and scrapes that you'd expect. All bear the OLWELL stamp...

Re: GCSE and To Kill a Mockingbird

This really is tragic. Gove seems to think that "English Literature" means books written in England in the 19th Century. Good books that really engage teenagers are worth their weight in gold, wherever they come from.

Re: To all irish speakers, I need a short translation

OK, I can hear it now. She says "Anseo sa ??? beidh píosa ceoil againn. Seo againn na Fianna agus casaidh siad rogha port chugann" The bit I can't hear sounds like "Le Dame de Bellini", which I take it is the name of the venue (or something like it anyway!) Anyway, what she's say...
