Re: Parades

We have a couple of parades a year in my small town. The Memorial Day parade is small and low-key, mostly veterans' groups and such. But the 4th of July parade is a bigger one - they are trying every year to make it bigger and better. Several bands (including a part of the UW-Madison band), all sort...

Re: The Game of Death

I don't know. These experiments aside, whoever thinks that "we" (generally speaking) have a hard time disobeying authority has obviously never seen an episode of Cops . In all seriousness, I'm sure there are good arguments to be made about why the generally speaking "us" blindly ...

Re: Customer Complaint Website (mention of Zombies)

My personal favorite from when I worked in admissions at a greyhound race track: Me: "I want to make sure you are aware that tonight it's standing room only" (Because people would be oblivious to the huge signs we'd post stating that). Customer: "Standing room only? Does that mean th...

Re: Listing professional degrees...

Other types of credentials are listed after: RN RN, BSN, becomes BSN (do you need the RN after it?) BSN, MSN becomes MSN BSN, DPM MSN, DPM but, DPM, RN if working in nursing and the RN was the "most relevant" credential Although, if it was for a publication, I'd probably go with RN, DPM r...

Re: Listing professional degrees...

The wee bit of googling I did seemed to have the general consensus that it is licensure first, then degree, (So RN, DPM for you) and degrees usually listed in order received. So if you have a bachelor's in nursing, you would be RN, DPM, BSN. But there were others who disagreed, and I only spent like...

Re: No more hugging!

Coughing or sneezing into your sleeve and then hugging someone is very unlikely to spread disease. For a virus such as the common cold, that does live on surfaces for a period of time (5 hours or so), touching the surface can transfer the virus from one surface to another. So colds are commonly spre...

Re: No more hugging!

Oh dear. I didn't mean for an end to hugging with my tagline. I hug all the time! I even hug (occasionally) at work, which is a local public health department. Speaking of coughing and sneezing in your sleeve, take 5 minutes to watch the video here: Why Don't We Do It In Our Sleeves? and you'll have...

Re: Books you've read and re-read...

The Chronicles of Narnia (CS Lewis) - first read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe when I was about 7 years old. I've read the series about once every 1-2 years (at least) since then. The Stand (Stephen King) - Read it 3 or 4 times, probably will again some day Outlander (Diana Gabaldon) - read ...

Re: Appropriate Indoor Temperatures

67 or 68 (if I'm cold) when I'm home. 62 when I leave. I have a split level house, and the lower level is very cold in the winter (cool in the summer too, which is nice). I've tried a couple of different heaters, just got an oil heater (you never have to do anything with the oil) that looks like an ...

Re: The Sherlock Holmes Movie

Saw this movie tonight. First movie I've seen in a theater for over a year, I guess I don't get out much. It was entertaining. It was also very loud, which is probably just me since I haven't been in a theater for a while (though my friends thought it was loud too) and more violent than I thought it...

Re: Remembering Y2K

I was recovering from the flu. Didn't do much

The only problem we had was one archaic computer program we still used at work that went wonky in the new year. But nothing catastrophic, just a nuisance.

Re: How would I.........?

I don't know the answer to your question but I know someone who might. My aunt is very involved in the folk music scene in Springfield (she plays hammered dulcimer), she has a lot of connections. She's involved with a group called Prairie Grapevine which puts on a lot of concerts and programs in Spr...
