Re: Note to guitarists and other accompanists
Sadly there are musicians who simply can't imagine putting their instrument down and listen a bit. There's some tunes that have many versions and even knowing the tune doesn't mean you know the version of the person who started it, especially if you've never played with that person before. Ever had ...

Re: Alien Covenant
The actions of some of the crew were so laughable they actually deserved to die, it's natural selection I guess ;-) Yes I agree they did deserve to die especially the guy having a poo and chucking his cigarette butt away. I think maybe that was the point, to show how crass and stupid humans can be!...

Re: Alien Covenant
Usually I can tell the sound of a Recorder, this is a bit in-between-ish (Whistle/Recorder) I would plump for a Recorder though. I enjoyed the film, predictable of course but you can't go wrong with invincible acid drooling aliens. I saw the movie today and to my ears it did sound like a Japanese f...

Re: In Praise of the Mighty OAK
Well, it's not free shipping is it? It's included in the price. But Yes, very nice whistle, the Eflat is my favourite whistle now. Can't beat it. Well it's just that the price is the same if you're either in Ireland or in Canada, for example. So if shipping is included in the price, then the Irish ...

Have you tried one? They sound great on the videos. Also, free shipping worldwide is quite impressive.Mr.Gumby wrote:If you're serious about the whistle, it's probably hard to beat the Killarney right now at 65 euro, delivered.

Can anyone in the world help me find this tune?
Maybe 10 years ago I came across a very nice waltz in D on Youtube. There was an old couple playing the tune, and I seem to remember they said it was composed by an American man for a wedding. It must be very local because I've looked for it on Tunepal, all the tune finders I could find and there is...

Re: Lock this if you like.
Perhaps because in non-information ages, you had to be where the handing-down happened, you had to be part of the tradition in order to have access to it. In the information age, on the other hand, it's easy to have access to the substance of the tradition without being part of it. Like you can fin...

Re: What is your session like?
What I notice is that over a long period of time I have become less interested in session playing, I suppose as you understand more about this music you become more sensitive about the interactions, especially if they don't work satisfactory, as well ass the whole politicking atmosphere in the back...

Re: Jer Quigley's Reel...which key?
Why are you saying the tune is listed in G? In the link you posted, the tune is listed in Em. That's the key I know the tune in. Well, if it's the same tune we're talking about. Most likely because I printed off the sheet music, played it through about 5 times and simply saw the one sharp...I didn'...

( Hi Azalin, long time no see. :-) ) Hello Guru! :-) Yep life a bit crazy but last night I took the time to browse the forums. Many memories here! I'm mostly playing concertina so I was hanging around C.net a little more but not going much to forums anymore. I'll try to lurk here a little more! Hop...

Re: Bodhrán player looking to jam with peeps in London, England!
A classically trained bodhrán player who calls Irish music a "liberal form of music" and an Irish session a form of jam, you sure know how to sell yourself to the ITM crowd!
