Re: Need help with tune name!
a clip from a recording from Kevin Crehan, he plays the tune 'The Musical Doctor' right before that one. That might be Track 11 from Kevin's album "An Bhábóg sa Bhádóg", and ending with The Mist-Covered Mountain. Kevin plays it at about MM=118, so actually a hair faster than the YT video....

Re: Uilleann Pipes: (Original Compostion) "Tears of Sorrow"
I think beyond the fact that one should know his/her instrument before trying something very experimental, one should also have the ear to recognize when something doesn't sound very musical. When your slides, on any instrument, sound like Daffy Duck being strangled by Bugs Bunny, there's something ...

Re: Need help with tune name!
Thanks Gumpy ;-) I don't think I could learn from an ABC even if my life depended on it, but I've got my hands on a clip from a recording from Kevin Crehan, he plays the tune 'The Musical Doctor' right before that one. Do you think that version of the tune (if you have the recording I'm talking abou...

Re: Need help with tune name!
Even though it's maybe a bit more rushed than Junior would have had it and have a slightly different take on the first part, it actually IS The Thatched Cabin , composed by Junior Crehan, just as the uploader named it. Thank you! It explains why Tunepal could not find it. But thesession.org doesn't...

Need help with tune name!
I really can't find the name of that tune. I've used Tunepal to no avail. It's the first jig in this set, it's not NOT the name the uploader gave it...

Re: my repertoire
I'm wonderfully unpredictable in a session; no one, least of all me, knows what I'm going to do. This is what makes a session so cool! I heard of sessions where people would discuss what they're going to be playing in a set every time. I'm guessing it's to accommodate those sheet music play...

Re: my repertoire
Nah, at the end of the day I'm a fan of the lingua franca , which is to say the beginning notes: "What shall we play?" "How about [twiddly twiddly] and [twiddly twiddly]?" "Sounds good. What else?" "I'm stuck." "How about [twiddly twiddly], then?" &...

Re: my repertoire
 I remember when I first started playing at sessions I would faithfully ask what a tune's name was and write it down somewhere. Whenever someone, especially one of my heroes, would say "I don't know what that's called" I'd be amazed. I mean, HOW could they sound so BRILLIANT and NOT ...

Re: I never know what to do
Ahhhh... The fun world of public sessions and threading through egos... I stopped going at public sessions a long time ago and I've been enjoying myself much more since then. Playing home by yourself, or the occasional kitchen sessions with your friends can be a lot more rewarding!

Re: Trying the concertina
Finding the next instrument is going to be a challenge. Not much out there that I have found that helps you really choose. Ideally its best to try a few and buy what you feel best with, or so it goes with pipes and flutes. I think 'tinas are just the same. From my point of view the choice is simple...

Re: Montreal?
Azalin-- we will definitely be back. With such a terrific city a mere 3 hrs away, we'd be crazy not to. I did have a couple of terrific Canadian beers, in the Belgian style, and can't wait for more. Also there are 4-5 bars that make their own beer here, and some of them are very popular.. "La ...

Oops, missed your message before, or we could maybe have had enough time for a tune and a pint... I live close to St-Denis, not far from Mont-Royal street so I'm sure you've walked close to my condo! I'm constantly trying not to gain too much weight as I got a tendency to pile up a few pounds easily...

Re: How is Scottish TM different from Irish TM?
If you took a given tune and had both an ITM fiddler and an STM fiddler play it, someone who was familiar with the styles would easily pick out which was which. Explaining why might not be so easy. Yep, and to me the difference is very obvious but I can't describe it much with words. For some reaso...

Re: Game of Thrones
I think the creators of the show did an amazing job at bringing the book to life. I'm a big fan of little Arya Stark and she did not disappoint, her character is even better than what I imagined. A Song of Ice and Fire is the best book series I ever read, and the show will probably become my favorit...
