Places for ITM in Ireland

Killaloe, Thanks so much for responding. :D Yes, your comments will be a great help! I mentioned to my wife about travelling about in Co. Clare but she figures we should be back at Bunratty before nightfall. We are going to rent a car when we get out west but only then. Folks at my session tell me t...

Good places in Ireland for traditional music

Hello to all, My wife is taking me to Ireland in a couple of weeks to celebrate an impending birthday....we'll be in Dublin, Waterford and Bunratty Village for a couple of days each. This is our first visit and we'd like to find some places in each city to listen to ITM - any suggestions? Thanks! :D...

Pictures of instruments

Hello, Thanks to Emmline's referral, I'm able to download pictures (thank you very much!) I play every Wednesday evening at the local session in Saratoga Springs. I've been into ITM for about 1-1/2 years now. In anticipation of being able to participate, I built a BanTar (guitjo to some) which I use...

Unusual Sound (in response to "awfully quiet")

Hi, OK, rather than "suffer" (not the right word) in silence, I'll ask a question. I just got a Rochelle a couple of months ago and have been practicing it daily. Lovely little instrument and lots of fun to play too! :D There are NO problems with the instrument except that when I play it, ...

Custom cases

All, Thanks for the suggestions - I appreciate the help. :D A good case is worth its weight in gold....About ten years ago I made a couple of violins which turned out very nicely. I also made a case for each, nothing fancy, a poplar box covered in black Tolex with a nice velvet padded interior, some...

Custom Cases

Hello, Does anyone out there know of a maker of custom cases? I need a case for a LARGE dreadnaught I built for a friend in the early 70's. I'm also building an octave mandolin and expect to need a case for it. It would be best if the maker was somewhere in the Northeast but any suggestions will be ...

Starch

I don't use starch - just another thing to make one stiff. BUT :o you can do this really NEAT trick with starch.....first, pour a pile of corn starch into a bowl. Add water so that it soaks into the starch but not enough to be runny. The starch will form into a semi-hard mass - AND THIS IS WHERE THE...

Metronome

A couple of things about the device (I use one from time to time.) Mike Eskin wrote that his speeds up and slows down. I didn't take that as a clever quip but rather a fact. I have a mechanical Mini-Taktell which can drive me nuts.... :o ....it slows up a bit and seems to catch up with itself. I've ...

Doc,
Look in Acoustic Guitar Magazine, February 2008 for music and TAB for Time In a Bottle. Looks like a nice arrangement. Kevin

dpmccabe wrote, "That's really a shame. Instruments belong in the hands of players, not in museums." The instruments on display in the Met have all had long and fruitful histories. I know that the two guitars that Segovia donated to the Met were past their prime at the time (classic guitar...

Good or bad

GOOD - I've been playing whistle for about a year too and I'm not nearly that good. Your playing made me happy. But, you are doing something wrong.....you're playing to the wrong audience. Find like minded souls and you'll get a better response. On the website "WhistleThis" one person subm...

B string problems

hyldemoer, What you have to say is very interesting... I make guitars and have ALWAYS found the B string to be very tempermental for a number of reasons. I believe it has to do with the thinkness of the unwound string. The fact that this is on a short scale guitar will exacerbate any problem that mi...
