Off to Galway in September...

Hello Chiffers! As the title suggests, I'm fulfilling a life-long dream and taking a trip to Galway City in September. I was wondering if there are any of you from there who could tell me about local sessions to go to. I'm also going to be traveling alone, so it would be nice to meet a fellow Chiffe...

I like my Clare 2-piece in a pinch, but mine has the unfortunate problem of being quite out of tune on the C natural. A tad upsetting. Best to buy one where you might try it out first.

I'm sure other 2-pieces and telescopers (more expensive ones, I bet) have better luck with tuning.

I have a version in the key of D from Joanie Madden's "Song of the Irish Whistle" album that I like very, very much. I used this version to learn it, myself. :)

This is what happened to me! Unbelievable. I was duped.

The only one I can really think of is my old favorite air, Brauch na Carrige Baine. Oddly enough I only like it on a high whistle, not on a low one. I usually LOVE airs on low whistle, but that particular one I prefer it higher. I feel like it "soars" more on a high whistle, maybe?

Donall Og from the Chieftains 2 LP was one of the first airs to really make me cry. I think it was the combination of it being so raw-sounding (being an LP) and also so haunting.

But Brauch Na Carrige Baine is also a favorite. Never fails to make me somewhat emotional.

The cello idea sounds a bit ungainly, though I suppose it could work... I don't know how much you're willing to spend, but I worked at a retail music store last summer and we had an acoustic bass that I was quite impressed with. It was made by Tacoma guitars. http://www.tacomaguitars.com/home.php It...

My biology teacher used to say that the most effective way to take a test is to read every question first, then start answering them from the beginning. Because our minds are still thinking about those other questions, it'll be easier to answer them once you get there. I think our subconscious minds...

I like to keep a list, though it's very short for now (still a relative beginner). But it keeps me from feeling like Boxer learning the alphabet from "Animal Farm"...learning ABCD and getting all excited, then learning EFGH and completely forgetting ABCD. :P I think this was already mentio...

If I had $50 to spend on whistles I'd probably get another Dixon. I love my polymer D...such a good ole standby whistle. I might get another key or two. But that's just me. :)

I really enjoy Neil Gaiman...and I was really shocked with how well they pulled off Stardust...wish it was better received. I think it was poorly advertised, personally. I went into the film knowing nothing about the graphic novel and...frankly...was a bit disappointed by the film as a stand-alone ...

Hah! Yeah, it's pretty amazing how we Seattle drivers flip out in the snow. Literally. O_O

We're not quite used to grey turning into white. Very strange. But you oughta see us scatter when the grey/white turns into sunlight. That's when we REALLY get confused. :D

Not gourmet, but for the bakers among us... So my mom and I embarked on a quest to make the best chocolate chip cookies we possibly could (my mom LOVES CCCs, but I'm picky about them). After some trials and errors, this recipe won hands-down for texture, taste (almost toffee-like), and the fact that...
