FS: Alba Low A Bass Whistle - Tunable - SOLD
Hey everyone, Well, I made a major bonehead mistake last month. :tomato: I meant to order an Alba tunable A whistle in the alto range and ended up with the bass tunable version instead. This whistle is quite literally brand new and unplayed. I didn't even bother playing it once I unwrapped it and sa...

Re: Phil Hardy / Kerry Whistles
FWIW, I did get in touch with Phil. I was in the market for an F whistle and he told me that a new model, the "Thunderbird", should be available in the next month or so and I might want to sit tight for it.

Re: Phil Hardy / Kerry Whistles
Okay thanks guys! I'll try the form on his website and maybe resend my original email. I'm not too active on FB anymore, but I'll give that a whirl too if need be.

Phil Hardy / Kerry Whistles
Hello! I was sitting here this evening and it dawned on me that an email I'd sent to Phil just before Christmas was never answered. Is Phil active, or more active on C&F, rather than by email? Just wondering if anyone had heard from him post-January. Perhaps he was on holiday..? I wanted to orde...

Re: CJ Dixon
[ Thread revival ] I had a similar situation to pancelticpiper. I sent CJ a 50% deposit of $1500 for a half set + $215 for extra chanter keys in April 2008. After much inquiring over the course of four and a half years I was told that my set materials had been gathered and he had started working on...

Re: CP: Android Hohner SqueezeBox Apps
Just discovered this thread. And I'm bummed out because my stupid Droid HTC Evo 4G can't run them. Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy an iPad after all!

Re: Name this low whistle tune
Well, at least that's a start even if it's slightly different. I may just have to slow it down and notate it onto paper. I really dig the rhythm of it and on the low whistle I get that haunting sound I always love...

Name this low whistle tune
Fast forward to 2:20 (ignore narrator as best you can after a few seconds) and tell me the name of this piece. It runs to about 3:30 and I REALLY dig it!

Re: Which banjo for a beginner?
I picked up a nice 1933 Weymann from eBay last Fall for around $200. It's got a tone ring, came with a case and is made in the USA. Similar to what brewerpaul said, I put new tuners and a bridge on it (which cost about $50) and it's got a nice sound! Plus I got it from the original owner and he took...

Celtic Odyssey was the first Celtic CD I ever purchased, which has been quite a long time now. I forgot how much I enjoyed that track until listening to it again just now! Thanks for the reminder...

Re: New to the bouzouki
I've got a Celtic Star brand Irish bouzouki too and really enjoy it. My advice on setup would be to go with GDAD. The reason I chose this string setup is that it allows me to play every chord you'll typically encounter in Celtic music with very little hand movement. So it makes for easy rhythm backu...

Re: Scottish Games in Pleasanton, CA
As both a participant and attendee in years past, I know that if there is an official hotel for the games, usually some band members (be it pipe band or Celtic folk/rock) will have a "kitchen session" after the games are done for the day. Usually they invade the bar of the hotel on Friday ...

Re: multi-instrument practice
I play a few different instruments in my Celtic rock band. As far as practice goes, I usually go back and forth between whistles, piano accordion, Irish bouzouki or tenor banjo and find myself eventually being able to pick up any of those and play the same song/tune with everyone. The only instrumen...
