Re: For Sale guitar stand

Hi Ferg. If there's something particularly special about it you'll want to mention that. It looks like the sort of A-frame stand that sells for about US$ 10-12. Asking US$30 is a bit dear.

Re: sinking calfskin

Instruments with natural skins often have to have two or more bridges to use as wheather changes.

Re: Irish Tenor banjo case

The TKL cases that Feadoggie are really pretty decent. I have several of their products including the 17 fret resonator tenor, but I know they (did?) produce an open back version. They're the standard black vinyl over plywood with fluffy interiors. Not touring cases, but more than adequate for the a...

Re: Bass recorder help!

The cap on mine is simply a hollow cap that fits over the top and has a hole in the middle to receive the bocal. Your bocal is missing the cork on the receiver end and also the water key. Those will have to be preplaced.

Re: Microphone and Amp for playing with a band

An acoustic guitar amp is essentially a single-cabinet, self-contained PA system. Those are the ideal choice for your situation as they give the most accurate reproduction from a microphone. Only the smallest of these lack an XLR jack for a low impedance microphone. Many of these come with phantom p...

Re: My Susato Four-Key Low D

Yes, that's the arrangement I've chosen for this whistle as well: open holes for the middle fingers of each hand. I took the idea from my bass recorder which itself is a very large hunk of pipe with holes too far apart for even the largest hands. EDIT: Panceltic Piper's comment about his angled-neck...

Re: My Susato Four-Key Low D

Concerning the pitch shading caused by keyworks, Mr. Kelischeck mentioned that his company has learned to make adjustments to avoid the issue. I'm not exactly sure what he means by that, but it suggests that he is well aware that a key too close to the tone hole will cause tuning variations and that...

Re: My Susato Four-Key Low D

The effect I noticed at first seems to have gone away. Perhaps I have gotten used to it. Perhaps I am unconsciously compensating for it somehow. Perhaps it was never really there to begin with. When my bandmate played it I couldn't hear anything wrong so perhaps it happens under the ear. It's very d...

Gee MT, do you mean that people have posted opinions without actual experience? I thought that never happened.

Re: My Susato Four-Key Low D

I thought about that cloudy sound at first also. Now that I have a few hours on it, it seems that the pads are breaking in and that problem is a lot less. I too have heard that keys can change the tuning, but on my whistle the keys rest as high off the vent as my fingers normally would so I haven't ...

Re: My Susato Four-Key Low D

Thanks. I can't post pictures but you can see the keys on the Susato website. They offer them as an option on all their low whistles. They can put keys on any vent. I'm thinking that I may eventually send it back to have the other two keys added for a fully keyed instrument. I was just pleasantly su...

My Susato Four-Key Low D

I've just received my new Susato low D Kildare whistle with the addition of four of the company's Comfort Keys. I had the keys placed on 1,3,4 and 6. Arthritis and nerve damage from diabetes had taken away my ability to play the low whistles and keyless flute. With these keys in place I can play the...

Re: setup tenor banjo for Irish

The hardest thing I had to deal with was finding just the right gauge for the G string. Irish tuning seems to be at or just a tiny bit below the low limit for a lot of banjos and keeping the low G from being wonky was the challenge for me. Don't get discouraged or too concerned, but just keep experi...

Re: Help identify mountain dulcimer?

The name Crying Otter is vaguely familiar. I'm almost certain I've heard that long ago at Everything Dulcimer. Did you try searching the archives at ED? The other sounds like a couple of guys who may have ventured into building. There are so many small builders out there that it can be very hard to ...
