I'm here! Been playing since my join date on this forum. Guess a little over a year now. Progression last year . . . Am confident in jig rhythms and reels (obviously). Hornpipes trip me up sometimes so I've sorta avoided them. Not too intentionally or anything but there's still a lot out there I can...

Aye hot weather and me don't go very well. I can get quite ornery.

And to think where I am it will be a whole 10 degrees F warmer tomorrow than it is today! :boggle:

I get Stone products in NJ quite easily. Harpoon brews are something that I wish were more prevalent around here. There's a lot of beers from the Great Lakes region that for some reason never make it down my way. Point, and Steven's are a few. I know there are tons since it's such a great region for...

1. Very interested. Can't wait to try new whistles. Plan on buying a flute soon too and I would really appreciate the opportunity for some hands-on. 2. As I said before, I'm quite flexible in the months of July and August (barring the 4th of course) No preference really although I would prefer a Sat...

My only wish is that my friend has kept up with the enthusiasm that we both felt for Irish trad over a year ago. Something tells me that's not the case however. :(

It's quite lonely over here with not much in the way of local players or local sessions that I can observe.

Am I lucky or what?

Recent conversation between me and my mom . . . Mom: " . . . So do any of your other friends play a musical instrument?" Me: "Well besides the guitar (which everybody and their mother plays) the only other person I know is Bryan. He plays the violin." Mom: "Oh that's neat! H...

I'm free most weekends of July/Aug. All of June is mostly booked for me though with family events and whatnot. Last year's trip was OK (+3 hrs for me, even more for Avery if you include the train). Though this year as I'd likely be traveling alone I'd rather not go too much further than that because...

I just ran up through the scale on my whistle and noticed that my pinky is down when playing A, B, C, and sometimes G. If anything involves my bottom hand fingers the pinky comes off. There's nothing saying you have to leave your pinky down the whole time. This is what apparently works best for me. ...

There's actually a lot of cool science in this. I'm really curious now. I wonder if it's possible to balance string tautness and body shrinkage or if this is something that expert instrument crafters even think about when shaping the instrument. Of course optimal performance will be room temperature...

I'm a lecturer in engineering, and wondered about setting a project on the response to temperature of an orchestra of instruments (whistle included of course). Whereas whistles go flat in cold conditions, what happens to stringed instruments? (Rhetorical question, unless someone wants to hazard a g...
