Re: Need help - Recommend a Polishing Cloth for Brass Whistles
Status report. I got the cloths in the mail, and have had the opportunity to use them twice. They work well. They are 2 sided, and should last a while. They don't take off ALL the patina. (There is some heavier stuff on the head, that is a bit thicker) But it does get most of it clean and shiny. I'l...

Re: Need help - Recommend a Polishing Cloth for Brass Whistles
Thanks
They sound like what I'm looking for, so I put through an order for them late last night.
Bought 6 for $11.85 plus 50¢ shipping to Canada (USD)
Thanks again.
I find it alot easier to purchase something when it's recommended, especially by those using it for the same purpose.

Need help - Recommend a Polishing Cloth for Brass Whistles
Hi I have a Burke Whistle in Brass, and I've decided to keep it shiny. (Tried it both ways) Anyway, out of the various methods to keep your Whistle shiny, It looks like polishing cloths are the most hassle free, and are better suited for frequent use. (at least to me) But... Where should I get them?...

Re: New Bohdran and Whistle combo (Dad & me) need suggestions
There would be a couple of things with whistle - to play with a D whistle, you would play a drum at a higher pitch than for a flute or Low D. You also work with the breathing spaces in the tune, although this is common to all the flute/whistle family. Good points, Davy. Also, I think you can be a b...

Re: New Bohdran and Whistle combo (Dad & me) need suggestions
Hi Thanks for the replies! Gives me somethings to think about. For one thing, I didn't realize that Bohdrans don't lead. I suppose thats good news for me :) I haven't seen (or heard) alot of examples of whistle and bodhran online (my best source of ITM related music) I guess one question to ask then...

New Bohdran and Whistle combo (Dad & me) need suggestions
Hi My Dad purchased a Bodhran so he can play along with my whistles. The problem is, what do we play? I haven't seen (or heard) alot of examples of whistle and bodhran online (my best source of ITM related music) I primarily play slow airs. Can the Bohdran play along with those? If so, anyone have a...

Tune played at Burkewhistles.com Anyone know it?
I was looking at BurkeWhistles.com and I found a tune being played here: http://www.burkewhistles.com/product.php?productid=16173&cat=277&page=1 Does anyone here know what tune that is? Or is it an original by the Kells. If its not an original then I'll go look for the sheet music. Dad likes...

Hi rap4th Lets see if I can help you. When playing, I found myself wanting to decrease the volume of the upper notes as well. Decreasing breath just above where it will break back into the 1st octave helps, but I found something else as well. I figured this out from my efforts to play the recorder. ...

Thanks guys that helps. I'm playing around with making a wind shield now. As for the Sweetheart whistles being good in the wind, well that was news to me. Good news, I was seriously considering getting a Sweetheart High D and or a Low D. Makes the decision easier :D I love playing the whistle not on...

I've only played two low whistles. 1 is a Low D Dixon Polymer that I ended up buying and the other was a Susato Low C. I didn't pay much attention to the sound of the Susato, the keys just didn't make it attractive to me, at the time i was starting to learn how to half hole and liking it and the key...

Whistling outside in windy conditions - Tips requested
Hi I like playing the whistle whenever opportunity rises, which is why I carry 3 whistles in my vest at all times. Why three? Different keys and well, its a long narrow pocket, what else would YOU put in there? Anyway my question. I find that going for a walk, or waiting outside somewhere is a good ...

Re: Monthly Updates are Due from Newbies
1. Can you still make that awful squawking sound? If I want to yes, I'm practicing with sending notes to the point just before it fully breaks into the octaves, for effect. I don't do it accidently anymore however. Not even in the second octave 2. How do you feel about your music? I like it, especi...

Blowing on the blade (instead of blowing into fipple) will give the same result. It is OK, but you don't have the 2nd octave... I found that an issue using that technique as well. I tried different things to try for a second octave, and found that removing my top finger for all second octave notes ...

*GASP*! :o The German system was a bastardized effort by early 20th C. German educators to create a Volks-instrument for school kids. They took the baroque/modern fingering system that had evolved over several hundred years, and hacked it for the sake of one note - resulting in an instrument that i...
