Re: Lon Dubh curious
Well that was a very helpful thread. Thanks again, Mr.Gumby! I've made my decision. Gonna buy a couple of other things at Whistle and Drum instead.

Re: Lon Dubh curious
Thanks, Mr.Gumby, you're right; you did post some impressions. I'll check out the mini review you linked, too. The thing is it's been such a long time since I ordered it and no one seems to know what the hold up is, and I'm not really finding glowing reviews...so I think I'd rather transfer the fund...

[quote="ytliek"]There are mixed reviews. To each their own. http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=88079&hilit=Blackbird+Lon+Dubh Thanks for the link. I read all of it, but didn't find one real review of this particular whistle, mostly just speculation based on the hi...

Lon Dubh curious
So I've ordered an O'Dwyer Lon Dubh whistle from whistle and drum, but it's been on back order for almost a year. I'm thinking about applying the purchase price to something else unless this whistle is worth the wait. Anyone have some insight to share?

Re: Getting a Dixon but having trouble choosing!
FWIW, I really like Tony's DX005 which is a polymer made whistle. It has a wonderful round tone and is fairly inexpensive.

Re: Hobgoblin USA
I bought a couple of Sweetones from them and, I think, a Dixon Pro D. It worked out great.

Re: Suggestions for beginners books?
I found Bill Ochs tinwhistle tutor very helpful. It also comes with a CD and a lot of tunes. And it's not too expensive, if that matters.
Welcome, by the way!

Re: Beginning Whistler
A Freeman Blackbird, a little over $30, but not much, is a very sweet, pure whistle.

Re: What tin whistle can I use to get to the third octave?
I find some whistles are definitely harder to use for 3rd octave. A dixon polymer I have isn't too bad. Also, a Freeman Blackbird sounds pretty good at that pitch I've found. I noticed on the youtube site the player says he uses a Feadog brass; I don't think I could sound as good on the one I own, b...

"The Secret of Roan Inish" (my fav) is full of nice ITM and whistle tunes as well as "Far and Away" with Tom Cruise, "Waking Ned Devine", "Matchmaker"(Janeane Garofalo), "Rob Roy", "Bravehart", "Titanic" and dozens of others! Any...

Re: beheading an oak
I found some stuff called Tacky Wax that's a candle wax adhesive. I've used it on a couple of whistles and it's given me a nice tight seal. I have an Oak C that I've had trouble with. I replaced the head with a Hoover whitecap and it sounds nice. I need to work on the tuning, though. The whitecap wa...

Re: whistle and guitar
Okay. I'm not a music theorist, but here goes...The tune is in Bb, but it begins on a D, which I think makes it a minor key tune. I don't know enough about music to say what key that becomes...is it D minor? Anyway, should that affect what key the guitarist plays it in? Sorry to be so ignorant, but ...

whistle and guitar
I don't play a guitar, and this may be a stupid question, but if a whistle and a guitar are playing together and the whistle is a Bb, should the guitar be playing in a different key for them to sound in tune? I've never played a duet with a guitar, so I need a little help. Thanks!
