Paddy was interviewed on a local radio show Tuesday night. I expect the podcast to be available soon at this link (Feb 25 show). http://www.thegaelichour.ca/archives08.html I checked out the concert space acoustics at an unamplified gig (harps, classical guitar, voice) and they are as expected, awes...

Paddy Keenan - March 7 - Ottawa, Canada

Paddy Keenan and John Walsh will be performing in Ottawa, Canada , on Friday March 7 . For further information please see the website: www.irishmusicottawa.ca Because there are so few pipers in the Ottawa region, there will be a whistle/low-whistle workshop the following day. That being said, piper...

Hi Diane, thanks for replying so quickly. After (duh!) posting above, as I pour through the many pages of this forum, I finally found some numbers, and the thread on small hand flutes etc. On hole spacing. If I'm correct, in millimetres, Tipple: X--37--X--37--X joint? X--28--X--43--X CB SH FF: X--32...

I'm wanting to try out a flute. My hands are exactly 7.5" as per Casey's diagram. http://caseyburnsflutes.com/detail_photo_handsize.php Is the small-handed Folk Flute (FF) small-handed because: a) the hole spacings are 'normal' but the ring finger holes are offset (as on Doug Tipple's offset ho...

Re: Clarke Meg

King of the cheap whistles? The Clarke Meg is $3 - cheap enough to give away to kids in a whistle class, yet not a bad whistle. You can buy them in 3 dozen batches directly from Clarke for $2 each. I have posted a song played on an untweaked Clarke Meg D on my website, http://www.whistleharmony.com...

My name is Craig. I started the whistle last September. I need to practice more often, but each month I'm better than the previous month, so I'm pretty happy with that. I grew up in Halifax Nova Scotia, moved to Newfoundland for 10 years, now living in Ottawa for the last 8 years. My grandmother was...

I'm a beginner/newbie. Megs are consistent sounding, and cheap as heck, so I got the darn things all over the place. If somebody really is curious about the whistle thing, I give one away (noticably cheaper than a pint these days!). My instructor uses one, and they are slightly tunable, and do not r...

I started in August, and after I could play scales, and get the pressure correct on both octaves etc, I took lessons as suggested by a good local player. Also, IF possible, go to sessions, listen to piles of trad, and find tunes you can learn quickly. I found that little victories gave more confiden...
