Hi all, Lots of good advice on this thread. I'm not quite up to 25 years of flute playing yet, but I'm not too far off either. :D So here goes. If you're leaving the flute assembled for long periods, and the tenons are cork lapped, make sure that the moisture isn't getting into the cork. Lots of cor...

Request for Raidio na Gaeltachta program

I am trying to find a copy of one of Aine Hensey's Sunday night 'An Ghaoth Aniar' radio programmes on RnaG - the one which included Gerry Harrington and Peter Horan as guests (I think it was probably aired on July 16). Does anyone have it archived? I really want to hear this...

Jim: I've been dealing with flute-related tendonitis in my left wrist/back of hand for about the last 2 years, on and off. My advice is: 1) Icing is a good idea. See if it makes a difference. 2) Find yourself some Arnica tablets and/or Arnica cream. Herbal, non-steroidal, good for reducing swelling ...

You can stop counting now Chris. I wonder what kind of metronome Paddy Canny had
Ever listened to a good dancer? Well... There's an answer there!

This is perhaps slightly unrelated, but the Irish language television channel, TG4, showed a programme within the last 2 weeks where an Irish-speaking presenter and crew visited one of these festivals, filmed proceedings, and talked to people who were attending (through English). I found it to be a ...

Thank you all!

I'll have to see what I have on minidisc at the moment - not too much, I don't think. I'm minidisc-recorder-less right now, but I need to get some stuff onto the computer for storage, so I'll see what I can come up with.
Glad you enjoyed the polkas!

Fnat to D with a short F isn't that hard if you think of it as a slide off the Fnat key. D to Fnat is a slide onto the key. Eric I can do the slide off of the key on any of my flutes pretty well. The slide onto the key, though--that I can't quite make work on any of them. Then again, my flutes have...

In Ireland, the only channel with SpongeBob is TG4, the Irish-language station - so my only exposure to the phenomenon has been through Irish. I've never watched a full episode. There are some interesting accents thrown in there in Irish though...

Although I did learn this tune from Matt Molloy's playing - his is the version that I can hear in my head - and I don't think I've played it a lot since then (quite a few years ago), I phrase it quite differently to Bloomfield's transcription. My breathing in the first part seems to be more differen...

I've had people laugh at me because I won't leave instruments in other people's houses, locked cars, etc. My instruments are all insured, but it's not the cost as much as the horror of losing a one-off instrument that makes me keep them with me at all times. If I'm at a session, if I leave my seat, ...

I wear my hair exactly like that on misty days in Cork. PM me for exact styling details. :P

My first flute was a 2-keyed Hammy. I played that for probably six years, until I got my current flute, a Rudall & Rose (#2196, I think), about six years ago. My younger brother was learning flute, so he had the Hammy for a few years, but he has stopped playing now. I never play it - I don't par...
