Accompaniment

Want you to know that I've made eighteen piano/harpsichord accompaniments for solo ITM instruments in their original keys. One march, two songs and fifteen dance tunes. The keyboard parts are simple, because it's about melody in this kind of music. I didn't engrave ornaments, they differ from instru...

Maybe a stupid question, but my dictionary fails on this one: what kind of wood is mopane? I understand that you can't tell me the dutch word for it, but could someone describe this kind of wood?

Thanks.

he only knows classical, he does not know itm, there's no choice for him to make. he is stuck in the classical box and cannot get out. he would not fit into an itm session unless it stopped to let him do his schtick - the ole classical interuptus. In a way he knows classical. I don't mind hearing h...

I played the Brueghel pipes and the Béchonnet at schools and music schools (once they gave me a cake for it, so at least I didn't starve  ). With two friends we sometimes play three-part bagpipe tunes in small theaters and there's a CD comming up with a 35 minute piece for 6 pipes, 6 hurdy-gurd...

Kate, I have the complete O' Carolan collection overhere, but it's unisono so I reckon it'll be no good. But I also have Capt. Fraser Scotland and the Isles collection "an admired plain harmony for the Pianoforte, Harp, Organ or Violoncello". Over two hundred tunes. I can't give the book a...

I prefer to have some dots for the basic learning and use Amazing Slow Downer for the details. I copied 'Out on the ocean' from Martin Hayes' playing just to find out that - after a year or two - it had changed into my own version.

Again, I lack what I need most: time and patience.

Yeah, I always "seem" to learn better after the first 3 or 4 :D

John
And the girls always look better after some pints. But then there's the morning after the night before.

I suspect a ten-year-old girl's fingers would find covering the holes completely a challenge. On my keyless flute, I have to be particularly careful on the B hole - I tend to slide off of it slightly after I get going. Yes, covering the holes is one problem, but stretching the right hand is another...

Put a Boehm and a simple-system flute side by side, and you'll see that the hole spacing is simply not an issue. If you can play a Boehm, you should be able to play a simple-system flute. No intention to get you wrong. :) I shall measure both instruments as you suggested but I'd like to mention tha...

Though I do not agree with Cubitt about the difference between Irish and Boehm flutes (I find the latter much easier to handle) I do agree with him that you can relax. I've got 'normal' hands that can handle a D-flute easily yet I never managed to play a low whistle, so if you can: enjoy waiting for...

Re: injury

I wonder if any one will tell me something about arthritis in one's hands, especially living/playing with it. I've been having persistent pain in the back of my left hand. Jim, sorry to hear this, but I hope this might be of some comfort: My wife (51 years old now) has exactly the same problems you...

You would want to visit www.geniesoft.com 'Overture' is very easy to use for 'just plain musicians' who don't want to study computer techniques only to notate music. 'Score Writer' costs almost nothing and will do fine for ITM notation, unless you'd like to make guitar tabs. 'Finale' is a very good ...
