I'd like to interject, at this point, a suggestion for a top-notch performer who plays at a moderate and reasonable speed, and is absolutely mesmerizing: Martin Hayes, a fiddle player. I recently bought "Under the Moon," after listening to his first cd for awhile. Dude, you can learn tons ...

I attend a SlowPlayers session in the San Francisco East Bay Area. We usually meet in Berkeley or near there. It's a very casual atmosphere with a wide variety of skill levels. Everyone is supported in their participation. We play a tune slowly so everyone can join in and then fast if some people ar...

8/3/01 Mick Woodruff emerges from the shadows just in time and plays The Lea Rig, which he learned from a Brian Hughes recording. It's saved in slow airs. (I'll have a new jig up in a day or so. Can't let Mick stay ahead of me...) Tony <a href="http://mchaffiewhistles.com/newspage.html">Ne...

"I can't play jigs at all right now, it seems, even at the slowest speed." You might consider getting software, such as SlowSpeed CD Transcriber, (ronimusic.com) to play your cd at really slow speed and play along with that. Bump the speed up gradually as you get comfortable. If you hang r...

It's also included in 110 Irish Best Slow Airs, which can be got with a cd of all the tunes. I don't recall ornamentation included in the print.

Isn't that what Noah Herbison's telescoping whistle for? Just make sure it doesn't stick. What about a whistle made of safety glass? The airbag hits it, it disintegrates. Or a throat guard with gill-slits for blowing air out of. You put it in your mouth to keep the fipple from jamming your brainstem...

I agree totally with everything Bretton suggested. (How's that for kissing up?) I'd add that putting in time on tunes you know well for disciplining your timing, smoothness, polish, as it were. Also devote time to practicing new tunes. Besides adding to you repetoire, it keeps the interest up and gi...

The safest answer, and maybe the most useful, is to get L.E.McCullough's "121 Favorite Irish Session Tunes." It's printed music with 4 cd's of all the tunes played twice, first, at a moderate pace w/ no ornamentation, then slightly faster w/ ornamentation. His stereo separation allows you ...

I thought about doing that little bit extra. I haven't looked at how much extra typing and clicking is involved. I figured one could click on the Clips and Snips Tune Archive to jump directly to the source. Right now it goes to the index page, which shows the date of the last update. It could be rel...

I look forward to hearing a sound clip. Could you get one that doesn't have a lot of other instruments with it. A nice slow solo piece would showcase its qualities.
Thanks,
