Re: New to Hammered Dulcimer and a History Book
Hi Walden, You mentioned the word "linear" and "chromatic" almost at the same time and it caught my eye. Down the road if you still find you have the need for more chromaticism in your life, I suggest check out instruments by James Jones of Bedford VA. http://www.jamesjonesinstru...

First...greetings. I am not dead, only been tuning. Second....Brother Nano-it must be said that you are the MAN. My laughter damn near woke up the neighbors-the McB's are downstairs likely wondering if I've gone cracked. I've been present for many of gems of your considerable wit- but this one is wo...

Re: Pibgorn - St. David's Day special......
You are welcome Jem, Thanks for all the information and the links. As a harper I've had a budding interest in WTM that started with the ap Huw manuscript. I wondered why more musicians working on ap Huw seemed only interested in Early Music and seemed not to be paying more attention to more recent W...

Hi there Jem,
Really Lovely stuff you have posted there.
There is little Welsh fluting to be heard here in the United States and the only player I've heard much of is Ceri Rhys Matthews. Your tunes are very engaging and well excuted and make want to hear more!

Memorial for Tim Fitzgerald
The Irish community of the Twin Cities and the Midwest is mourning the loss of Timothy "Fitz" Fitzgerald who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was literally a driving force in our community in his many roles as organizer, highland piper, singer and man of many talents. He helped m...

Great tune. I love this forum as I am slowly learning the names of the tunes I know!!! I learned this tune from the box playing of Charlie Heymann and never got a name of it off him.

Hey Brother, Cool that this ancient harp has been revived in Japan! This form of harp has been with us forever. Not only did this instrument last in the far East but it's Persian cousin was used as recently as the 17th century and is a close relation to the Burmese "saung" http://en.wikipe...

Re: Looking for a couple of Tunebooks
Hey there Ben, Don't know if you still seeking a copy of the Midwest Book, but here's the email address of the chap who put it together. He usually has copies. His name is Phil Rubenzer and his last known email address is dance116 [at] juno.com. If that fails, try 411 for Delafield WI, it's a pretty...

Oh blast it Ptarmigan, the clip player, when clicked says 'NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA". Much sadness. Are they your tunes??

Re: Playing ITM in extremely noisy settings
Nice Haiku Talasiga! I've seen this before. They weren't there for the music, but to gawk at the spectacle of the dancing, the eye-candy of it. The music is incidental to them. Take away the dancing, and it's fine to display bad manners; after all, these days music has become for many people little...

No that he didn't. And I think we should probably be glad that the Gaelic harp escaped his endless Victorian schmaltzoid arpeggios.Ol' Salzedo never played one of these beasties!

Re: Dull string on my brass-strung harp
In the part were Galway doesn't live up to the crossover claims of his recording company...we are in total agreement. As for Sir James' whistle playing, don't get me started. But now we're really OT. Sorry ... Hey...Don't be sorry. His whistle playing is..." a thing to itself" to put it di...
