FS: BC Childress Practice Set

Hello C&F. For the second time it's become painfully clear I have to sell my pipes for both time and financial constraints. My loss is your gain. This is a BC Childress practice set from 1997 (has chanter stamp); I am the 2nd owner, for the last year or so. The chanter plays in tune and has keyb...

Hello C&F. For the second time it's become painfully clear I have to sell my pipes for both time and financial constraints. My loss is your gain. This is a BC Childress practice set from 1997 (has chanter stamp). The chanter plays in tune and has keyblocks but no keys. The leather bag and bellow...

Re: Mountain Dulcimer?

Sorry if this is complicating your whole deal, but given the choice between dulcimer and banjo I say go MANDOLIN. :) I'm a longtime guitar player and I really enjoy playing the mandolin now. You can get a great A-style mandolin for $400....a little more if you want the fancy-looking F-style. If you ...

Re: Tape as finger placement guides?

Tape cleaned off quite nicely with some "sweet almond oil" from the Target grocery section, hopefully that was the right stuff. Worked quite nicely to remove the gunk and gave the wood a nice sheen. Now time to get finger placement through practice and muscle memory rather than gunky tape!...

Re: Tape as finger placement guides?

Looks like electrical tape which would hopefully come off clean....what is a safe solvent for removing tape gunk, just typical Goo Gone stuff ok?

Tape as finger placement guides?

So here is the Childress set I nabbed....it's not here yet, but I thought I'd ask the question anyway. See the tape by the holes? The seller stated it was an old piper's trick to assist with finger placement. The tape doesn't appear to be over any part of the holes for tuning purposes. Is this a sta...

Re: H.J. Clarke Tutor: Red or Green?

Used to have red, went with green this time as it was cheaper....and like the above poster said, the piper is flipping the bird! Thanks for the help!

H.J. Clarke Tutor: Red or Green?

I am back in the game after 6 years! Grabbed a Childress practice set on eBay and can't wait. In my 1st foray into piping I had the red-covered Clarke tutor and liked it. Now I am seeing green ones, which also are a few bucks cheaper and appear to be the same, but are they?

For beginners: Needed or no? (+Pipemaker advice)

I am looking seriously (finally) into wading back into the uilleann pool after just a brief dip 6 years ago. My question relates mostly to chanter keys, but also to spare reeds, synthetic vs. leather bags, etc. I am trying to keep cost down, but don't want to wind up having to upgrade sooner than I ...

Best instrument to learn on that isn't actually the pipes?

Totally addicted to acquiring instruments lately....mandolins, harmonicas, whistles, etc. Overly dividing myself is a whole seperate issue. But I still pine for the one practice set I have owned, 5 years ago now. I WILL get into piping, I will! :tantrum: Anyway, my newest acquisition is a low D whis...

Re: Ebay Items

Can anybody elaborate on the MacHarg set? Price is started really low, and seller doesn't seem to know that much about it. I tried researching, and found Iain MacHarg in VT, but couldn't find much on pipemaking. Anyone with knowledge either post or PM? Thanks....still wanting a cost-effective practi...

Re: Some love for the NPU...

How does a poor guy wanting to learn get a loaner from across the pond? :P I intend to join once I get my hands on a practice set....which is probably about a year from now with next year's tax return. :(

Re: Daye pipes

That actually helps a lot, Tristan, thank you....when I take the leap I will probably confirm with Mr. Daye what he currently does.... Your reply causes me to think of another question....how important does everyone think a double-padded bellows is? My short-lived 1st attempt at uilleann piping was ...
