Re: Paul Hayward - maker of Silkstone whistles

Very sorry to hear of Paul Hayward's passing. I'm sitting here with PH 37 D in my hands, a luverlee, sweet sounding whistle with an impeccable maroon finish. I once spent an exceptionally pleasant few hours at his house playing whistles and chatting about stuff. I think I played nearly every whistle...

Re: Patrick Olwell documentary finished!

What a lovely heartwarming film.
I found it entertaining, informative, inspirational and funny!
Excellent value, well worth the extremely low cost and I know I will be viewing it again and again.
Well done, Jem. Good work!

FS: Uilleann Piping CD's on eBay

Hi folks. I'm trying to divest myself of some surplus worldly goods. I've put some UP CD's on eBay: Leo Rickard, Seamus Ennis, Ronan Browne, McGoldrick & McSherry and Eliot Grasso. Here's a link to one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&am...

I have a huge amount of experience in solving such dilemmas. You would be welcome to benefit from my wisdom gained from extensive in-the-field training. I suggest you therefore: Buy them both. :o Take your time deciding which you like best. :-? Sell the one you don't like as much, via this board or ...

Champion Violin Peg Set

Saw these fiddle pegs: "Adjustable tension friction pegs w/ metal shaft and ebonoid button. Each peg has a specially sized bullet-shaped tip, the E-string having the shortest and the G-string having the longest. From Grover. $20" while following somebody elses link. See them for yourself a...

Getting back to the mute.... I use one of the solid metal (chromed) quite heavy mutes an on my fiddle. It gets a bit of rosin sticking to it so you have to wash it every now and again. See, our house is a bit open plan and when the little woman's watching tv or asleep there's only ever one door betw...

Well, mainly it was just that the one I had--the one my sister had many years ago--was higher than average, and seated in such a way that it didn't fit me. The one I have now is of the standard black wood variety (don't have a brand name, sorry,) sits lower, and has the little tail extension that c...

You're gonna lose! Send the whiskey now! I'm talking an average fiddle, played by a typical session or folk player. And I'm talking about playing at 3am. Or being able to have 30 mins practice at 7am before I go to work. And carrying on playing until everyone else has long gone to bed if need be - a...

Apparently, there are three reeds with the set also - two of which made by Howard. I would think that at least one of the three could be made to play well in tune without much volume - certainly equal to or LESS than the fiddle, which would be normal for any up chanter anyway yes? Less than a fiddl...
