Re: Kerry Pro Low D - Overtones on low notes
Nismology, Thank you for your description of how the two Kerry Pro instruments play. Thanks especially for the pics. The pics are very interesting. In the pics, the windway entrances look visibly different. One has a nominally "flat" roof. The other roof has some curves. Question: which on...

Server SQL trouble ?
I’ve been unable access C&F for almost a week. Very spotty access anyway.
Always some kind of SQL error message.
Anyone else experiencing this ?

Re: corned beef
I haven’t tried sauerkraut but I have made Kimchi a few times.
Great fun getting "fizzy veggies" .
Corned beef ? Always seems tough. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. . .

Re: Tweaking a whistle with a dirty/harsh sound
. . . (Three motorcyclists need 5 motorcycles - why is that? I can't afford to dip too deeply into that question as it will then be asked why does one flute and whistle player need 40 flutes and 30 whistles?) . . . Mr. McGee . . . Having gone through a number of motorcycles in my younger year...

Re: Tuning Slide Revolution?
Very creative, novel, and innovative idea !
In my own experience with new ideas, the real work is always in the making the first prototype.
I always find many "lessons learned" along the way.
I hope it all works out !

Re: Tune Identification please.....
Thanks Trill "Red Haired Boy" ? That would make sense - as people on the session reckon that is another name for The Little Beggarman. Do you have doubts though, judging by the question mark? Well, the version in the sample clip has lots of differences from the one I know. So, I had some ...

"Red Haired Boy" ?
Although, in the clip provided above the "B" part seems to be recorded first.

Re: Onyx vs. Copeland, lower hole sizes
. . . But maybe they are already angled? I have an Onyx and took a close look at the holes. Much to see ! 1. thick walls 2. chamfers outside, with variations windward/leeward. 3. hole-walls have plainly visible differing angles windward/leeward. I have a vague recollection of a post by Ralph Sweet ...

Re: Frequency in a square tube
I thought that what mattered was the cross-sectional area of each point in the bore, regardless of the shape. I'm inclined to agree that cross-sectional area matters. After all, bore-perturbations and tapered bores influence tuning. Square whistles, eh? . . . Imagine the fun (work!) of "taperi...

Re: Frequency in a square tube
Shouldn't the pitch be determined by the length of the tube, regardless? Certainly, length is the dominant effect. However, for equal tube area, a square tube will have about 13% more surface area. So, more area for viscous friction. My hunch is that a square tube would have a *slightly* lower pitc...

The Hoover Whitecap has the lowest backpressure of any I've played. It's also one of the quietest + sweetest-sounding.Mikethebook wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 10:50 am . . . but finding one that has minimal backpressure too is more of a challenge. . .

Re: High Ds with minimal impact on lungs/chest
Here are two I can think of:
1) "whitecap" by Mack Hoover: it's just the mouthpiece, fits Gen barrel. Absolutely least amount of air of any I've played. Also, sweetest sound/timber.
2) Susato VSB: narrowest diameter I've ever seen. Retains characteristic Susato sound.

Re: Flattened thumb patch
I use "alien tape".
By itself, or to attach something to serve as a "thumb rest" on Low-Ds.
No adhesive residue. Sticks really well.
Some sort of carbon-tube-nano-magic.
Also known as "gecko tape".
