Re: Fripp’s Tuning? (aka New Standard tuning)
Thanks for the input! I really want to give this a go since I’m much more familiar with 5ths tuning. EADGBE just won’t click with me, despite almost 30 years experience with it.

Fripp’s Tuning? (aka New Standard tuning)
Anyone tried this tuning out? It was created by Robert Fripp of King Crimson to approximate 5ths tuning as much as possible. The tuning is CDGAEG, so really it’s only the highest string that doesn’t use the correct interval (likely because the string would break well before reaching that high B). I ...

Determining age/copyright status of tunes?
Hi, I’m curious to know if there’s a website or a master list of tunes that fall into the open domain area vs. those that don’t. I know plenty of sessions have surely picked up a tune here and there that might not be too old, especially stuff written for a specific album. I do realize that there’s a...

Galeon tweaked Feadog experiences?
I just saw this listed at the Irish Flute Store. https://www.irishflutestore.com/collections/tin-whistles-all/products/galeon-tweaked-feadog-whistles I did a search, but the only comment is from Blayne, saying it’s similar to a Silkstone Alloy D. But that means nothing to me, having never played a S...

Re: Recommendations for 'stepping up' in whistle quality
FWIW, I have been whistling for 15 years now, and have been through several dozen over the years, from $7 to $400 in range. Some of these were owned by friends and I sampled them them, some I owned myself. What do I play now, after all that research? A $30 Jerry Freeman Mellow Dog. It simply fits al...

Re: Anak Whistles
I haven’t played one, but was interested in them for a while. The research I did at the time led me to the conclusion that these tend to be at the high end of the backpressure spectrum. I know this isn’t objectively a pro or con, but if you like lower backpressure it’s probably not for you. This is ...

Re: Mandolin
While I’ve never heard of anyone doing this on mandolin (but it’s certainly a viable idea since you’re not planning on doing this in a session), something that might work is to listen to how some bouzouki players do counter-melody. You might need to retune to GDAD or ADAD if you go that route. Zan M...

Based on what you what to do, I’d say get a Generation Bb tweaked by Jerry Freeman.

Re: Muddling tunes
Yes, we have a polka set that I do that with. Frankly they’re all so similar that could randomly mix the A and B parts and it wouldn’t matter.

Re: WARBL arrives
I got one of these for the Ipad: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EWB37S Clip-on speaker. It plugs into the headphone jack, and you charge it via USB. Other than an on/off switch there are no other controls...it just amplifies the sound coming out of the jack and plays it through the speakers-...

Re: WARBL arrives
Has anyone tried connecting their phone to a Bluetooth speaker and not experienced lag? I’m interested in getting one of these but only if I can find a set up that works in a session of 4 to 5 people.

I just want to add that I know borjomi in real life and recommended her here, in case anyone is hesitant about this being some type of new member scam.

The video doesn’t show up for me, but the pictures do. Looks like a metal bassoon a bit. I look forward to seeing and hearing more.

Re: Mountain Made Low D
I’m highly skeptical of the claims. Some actual sounds clips on the page would help. Better yet a tour of the low D.
