Re: Information on McCullum Acetyl Pipes, Please.

Richard, by now you most likely have had a chance to play your new set of pipes a bit, are you still pleased with them? It sounds as though they may have been sitting for a while, are you breaking them in as you would with a new set? How are they set up? Would be interested in your thoughts on chang...

Re: Somers Pratten, Delrin, D Flute/ w 8 Maruice Reviol Keys

Hi kkrell, here is the address to the price list, which was current as of May 2012, and since it has not been updated, I assume these are still his prices in NZ Dollars. http://www.reviol.co.nz/HTML/Prices.html. With regard to shipping cost, Mr. Raviol was able to save me money on the shipping cost ...

Re: Somers Pratten, Delrin, D Flute/ w 8 Maruice Reviol Keys

Tried to find the receipt for the addition of the keys, I guess I've lost it. However, his price list is on his web site and as best as I can recall, the prices currently are the same as when I had keys installed almost 3 years ago. Placing keys on the Somers flute was worth it for me. I very much e...

Re: Information on McCullum Acetyl Pipes, Please.

Hi Richard: thank you for the pictures, really nice looking pipes. Wouldn't it be interesting to know some of the history behind the two sets that you own, perhaps you do? Previous owners obviously took good care of them in order for them to have survived for 70+ years. My Dunbar's are very plain an...

Re: Information on McCullum Acetyl Pipes, Please.

Thanks Richard for your post. Yes, you are correct, I did mean McCallum Pipes. I ordered and recently received a set of McCallum AP4 pipes and I'm well pleased with the purchase. Took a while to get here, but was worth the wait. I ordered all of the "extras" a lot of bling, but I like the ...

Re: C natural key sticking

Jim: I would have assumed the same thing. Could the key possibly have been bent? I would suggest that you seek Mr. Olwell's advice at this point.

Re: Information on McCullum Acetyl Pipes, Please.

Hummmmm????? I was hoping for some feedback relative to persons who have purchased or have tried out the "plastic" pipes (Acetyl/Delrin, etc.), especially the newer models or pipes that are of fairly recent manufacture (within the past 2 or 3 years). I've heard that earlier manufactured pi...

Re: why does oiling a flute improve its responsiveness?

I have had exactly the same experience with both a key less boxwood and a 6 keyed boxwood flute. It happens after every oiling and lasts for about one session. Like Pat, I've assumed that the oiling fills whatever micro cracks or imperfections that might be in the tube. Also oil the tenons and that ...

Re: One of those days....

Great story Terry, thanks for sharing it. I'm on the elderly side of things, and I do have to admit that I get a little excited when I start packaging up a flute and get to use scissors, tape and bubble wrap--perhaps it's a yet to be diagnosed, age related disorder?

Re: Holding flute comfortably

The best advice/direction on "flute support" that I've received came from the post just above mine--from jemtheflute. I play both Simple System and Bohem flutes and Jem's instruction has been invaluable for me and has made my practice and playing so much more enjoyable. I've had to unlearn...

Timedriver, you might check out a thread by LorenzoFlute, 9/27/17, "Delrin Headjoints for Boehm Flutes." Lorenzo, who resides in Germany, is currently making and selling Delrin headjoints. I own a Yamaha Flute, and I recently bought one of his headjoints. My headjoint fit very well and nee...

Re: Seasoning small pipe bellows

I've recently been working on a set of Smallpipes that I own and I came across and excellent book entitled More Power to Your Elbow published by The Lowland and Border Pipers Society. In appendix 4, Maintenance and Repair, this text describes using a "stitching paste" that is made by melti...
