Re: And now for something completely different: Härjedalspip

To summarise, Wales is (and has been since the Anglo Saxon conquests of what became England) a nation in its own right, is technically a Principality of the United Kingdom and is geographically part of Great Britain, but has never in any way been part of England!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Re: And now for something completely different: Härjedalspip

I stumbled across this Swedish whistle maker. (Well, technically Härjedalen is part of Norway that Sweden stole, but...) Well, even more technically... Norway was a part of Denmark (Swedens arch-enemy in those days) back in those days (1645) when Härjedalen became a swedish province by the treaty o...

Leif Eriksson

http://www.tongang.se/leif/flutes_files/shapeimage_1.png Leif Eriksson is a maker of very fine swedish spilåpipas (spelpipa/spilåpipa). They don´t look that fancy and they aren´t very expensive but they have a lovely and delicate sound. I own one of his pipes in I treasure it very much. His version...

Yeah, it's interesting that we don't really have a specific word in English for our instrument, isn't it? Whistle is pretty generic - Irish whistle, police whistle, train whistle, wolf whistle. Flageolet is too Frenchy, and often refers the older French or English type instrument with a sponge cham...

I play oxxooo or oxxoox. Sometimes it´s wee bit sharp ´but I´ll just have too live wiith that! The main point - I´ll never change my fingering! (even if it way too sharp). It´s easier to live with a flat c-nat that a different fingeng. I hate change my fingereng! I do not care if i note is way to hi...

Re: The perfect whistle, but it's the key of C

I got a Mellow Dog set a while back. The D whistle is nice, but the C, I've found, is pretty much the perfect whistle for my particular tastes. I haven't played a D whistle that matches the tonal characteristics of the C whistle. It's not pure, it's not airy, but has a lovely reedy sound to it. Plu...

Re: English Traditional Music

I have been whistling for about three years, playing chiefly ITM. Lately, I have been playing much more English Traditional Music (ETM?), after all, I am English. I can find very little (in fact none at all), material relating to English tunes. However, I read somewhere that the English style benef...

I´d just like to take the opportunity to point out that my transcription of Women of Ireland is taken from a recording with James Galway. I personally think that Paddy Moloney and the Chiftain´s rendition is much more interesting and beautiful (and more traditional). Galway´s rendition and the whole...

Does anyone on CF. know anything about Brad Anderson´s whistles. Very fine craftsmanship but how do they sound? As Mitch said, Brad is doing very nice work. I was lucky enough to try one of his Bendee whistles. Mitch referred to the thread about that whistle. The sound was very nice. I liked Brad's...
