Re: Requium for a Coffeehouse

This happened recently in a cafe where we had our monthly session. There is definitely something that can be said about an establishment where the owners and employees all know you by name.

As a student, I can't afford to keep much of a collection, and what I do amass ends up getting downed rather quickly. That said, we have....

A bottle of Baco Noir
A bottle of Gin
White Vermouth
Red Vermouth
Appleton's Estate Rum

I could have sworn there was more than that, but there you go...

I will second that motion. I am largely self taught in a folk-esque fashion on all my instruments. I'm also in classical music school now, so it didn't ruin my music education. Sure, I have to deal with my professor occasionally correcting hand positions and the like, but I have certain advantages t...

Well, fiddle is germanic in origin, but then again english is in the germanic family of languages, so I suppose we can't be too surprised if it shows up elsewhere. I have a deep love of etymology so I am sorry for derailing the post a bit to express that love. If you ever want to know almost as much...

Fiddle and Violin are the same thing. The term fiddle is the now out-dated english translation of the italian word violino, but classical musicians being such a peculiarly fussy animal, they've made the very word fiddle to have connotations which include barn dances and other sorts of low activities...

It did kinda scare me about 3:29 minutes into it. I thought I saw the face, or maybe it was the attitude, of Oscar ... Check it out. Slan, D. I didn't notice that the first time around...but then I was multitasking at the time. Wilde! ;) ... har har har. Here's one to unfortunately kill the ...

Anyway, what I've done so far is try to work my way into the music, and especially the trad music scene here in my new town. Some of my best times were spe...

There was, untill very recently, an excellent cafe that also hosted our sessions. Our sessions have a history of closing places down apprantly, and the cafe went under. However, they had the best, and only turkish coffee I've yet to find in the city. It is pure goodness. This thread has reminded me ...

My desktop computer runs Ubuntu. I really like it, its clean and simple, and comes pre-loaded with more or less everything you need, and has an installer which makes it easy to find and install any other programs you might desire. On a non-linux sort of note, I just got a laptop that runs Vista. I'm...
